You never know what you would do in a situation like that. Some people are smart and act like a wuss. Some people have adrenaline pumping through them and take it very personal when someone tries to steal their livelihood. Personally I'm glad they tried to teach this creep a lesson. Injuries will heal.
I bet you that other guy that did nothing was with the shoplifter. That situation could have turned real ugly real fast.
Never fuck with Korean store owners! They will die taking you down just on principle. There was probably more damage in that store than what that dude tried to take. My mom was the same way when we owned a deli. She would stand toe to toe with Hells Angels and reach into their pants to get the shit they tried to steal. My uncle fought three guys trying to steal beer.
