I think our old friend Mike Golub's being a bit funny here... Let's see...one's a non-profit organization that is trying to break even by offering HS football game tickets for $5, and one's a professional sports/sports management organization that is squabbling over an extra $2500. Did the friends-and-family offer not cover Mike's expenses last year? Does Mike not get enough from advertising/etc that if he lets the arena sit unused it's better than turning on the lights for 7500?
Clearly Merritt Paulson has no shame. First, he makes no attempt in the offseason to improvme that joke of a back line, and now he's trying to soak the local high schools? He charges $25 for a freaking scarf, and you're telling me they can't take $2500 less than they want?
I think the real problem is having to convert the field on short notice from a football stadium to a soccer pitch. The.Sounders are the worst offenders in overscheduling and having a terrible field. All of the other stadiums mentioned as replacements should be fine.
It's not soccer events, it's corporate events. They can rent out parts of Providence Park for more than the OSAA will give them.
What's upsetting is that us Portland taxpayers are still paying the stadium remodel before this current one in addition to part of the current remodel. It's a city facility. Timbers should work with OSAA instead of trying to profit off of them.
what corporate events will Providence Park host, during the late fall when it's raining like shit outside and cold? It's not like the park is an indoor convention center.
They've got inside space on the east side. They're actually holding an ugly sweater promotion tomorrow.
I remember when they use to have concerts at PGE park. I know some businesses have their company picnics there.
Would they not be serving the city of Portland better by profiting the most instead of selling services below market value to the state?
Yes, Kind of. My sisters 8th grade class played volleyball against the Timbers, but the Timbers could only use their feet.
They could play at Lincoln instead, they've got a field right across the street. Or wait... the MC! It's not good for anything else. Tear the roof off if you need to play in the rain. barfo
