I've decided to make a weekly "If the playoffs started today" thread. We can watch the progression of teams that were hot and those that get cold. At the end of the season, we can see the progression of the teams.

    As of November 24th, 2014

    Western Conference:

    (1) Memphis vs (8) Sacramento
    (2) Golden State vs (7) Phoenix
    (3) Blazers vs (6) SAS
    (4) Houston vs (5) Dallas

    Eastern Conference:
    (1) Toronto vs (8) Orlando
    (2) Washington vs (7) Cleveland
    (3) Chicago vs (6) Milwaukee
    (4) Miami vs (5) Atlanta

The western conference playoffs look damn tough! I definitely wouldn't want to face SAS in the first round!

If the playoffs started today, the 10th place team in the west (Clippers) would have a better record than 4th place in the East. That's even worse than last year.

Also, if the league were ever smart enough to go with the top 16 regardless of conference, it'd be:

    (1) Memphis v (16) Milwaukee
    (2) Toronto v (15) Atlanta
    (3) Golden State v (14) Miami
    (4) Portland v (13) LA Clippers
    (5) Houston v (12) New Orleans
    (6) Washington v (11) Sacramento
    (7) Dallas v (10) Chicago
    (8) San Antonio v (9) Phoenix

IMO, the 6-11 would be the most interesting matchup. And as with the NCAA tourney, I'd definitely take the 12-5 upset.

We are currently set to face SAS in the 1st round of the playoffs. That would be a tough series.

Teams to watch during the season:
    Toronto
    Washington

They have been progressing quickly the last 3 seasons.

I am sooooo for the top 16 teams face each other! The NBA should really look into this

But then I suspect that you would need to play the other conference more often, to balance out the power. Maybe 3 games per season

It started equally as bad last year. For the first month and a half of the season, the East couldn't get 4 teams above .500 - then they started playing each other, and well, someone had to win. This isn't like the SEC in football where the top teams keep knocking each other off, this is just a bunch of really crappy teams battling to see who's the least crappy.
