im sorry but after watching all the trail blazer games, i see we needa another scorer off the bench to go along with mccollum, and kaman you put another scorer with thoses two and it helps further develop cj because he wont have all this pressure to have to be the second best player off the bench. someone who can play 15/20 mins a game and can put up points quickly and can play 2/3 im not going to throw out names but if we want to be elite we need another scorer. i think that bench player should be another vet whos been to the (wars) playioffs. i thought we should have went after Q miller young althletic cheap lots of upside. or even earl clark can play D 6'10 and can guard 2-4. - to stotts he needs to play the bench more he doesnt give them a chance if they make mistakes he takes them out gotta let them develop mccollum, barton, freeland, lenonard crabbe robinson. even wright you cant get much going with only playing 8 mins. trust the bench.
thank you !!!!! it just sucks cuz our bench still stinks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! kaman is the only one who is consistent bench player. (im not knocking blake cuz hes was brought here to run the O and get our weapons the ball).
That's kind of what i was thinking watching the game last night. They needed another guy to take some shots.
CJ is not the answer to our bench woes. He helps of course, but what we lack is a playoff proven vet who can get his own shot. FWIW, the OP had a very mixum like vibe to it
This... I like our current bench, but we definitely need a player other than McCollum. Someone with a bit more experience in crunch situations
As some have already noted, a player capable of playing the 2/3 spots (preferably 3-pt proficient) would be the next ideal bench player.
Honestly, I'm not sure how you can say that? We have a better bench, but we are still 25th in bench scoring, 27th in bench minutes. We need it improved at the deadline to take that next step
Actually, a player who can get into the paint and create his own shot would work better for our roster, IMO
I've been harping on this for ages. We don't have wing players that get to the line enough against the elite teams in the West. We don't need 3-point gunners, we have that covered. We need a player that get calls going to the rim when the shots aren't falling for Dame and LA.
See I disagree. Memphis is a really good team. I predicted they'd win 60+ games this year and was laughed at. Bench won't win a game against a good team like Memphis. Starters will. In order to beat Memphis the Blazers need their Starters to play better defensively. Last night after the Blazers cut it to 6 with the bench in, they subbed the starters and gasol/conley pushed it back to 10. (won't address the terrible outlet pass Kaman tossed that turned into a turnover killing momentum.) Blake flustered the hell out of Udric, and forced him to take some bad shots. I don't think CJ would have helped last night at all. The starters needed to finish that game better defensively. Not the bench. Also I wasn't the biggest fan of the offense last night. LA needed to be posted up a few more times vs Gasol/Randolf. I know they were fake double teaming but it still opens up shorts/cutters. The few times he was in the post... He made Gasol look like a mouse. Which is stupid with as big/strong Gasol is..... But it's one game. Not going to overreact. Memphis is good. Blazers are good. regardless Memphis and the Portland will be two of the final four teams alive in the west this year.
I agree with this take. Would I go for an upgraded bench? Sure. Is it the reason we lost or will lose games? Not likely imo.
Who did we beat though? The victories are awesome, but who did we beat? Records as of now Denver 8-8 Charlotte 4-13 @ Denver 8-8 Brooklyn 6-8 New Orleans 7-7 Chicago 10-6 Without Rose, Gasol or Hinrich @ Boston 4-9 @ Philly 0-15 @ Charlotte 4-13 So 1 team with a record over .500 in that stretch missing 3 key players. In fact, the Blazers are 2-3 vs teams with a .500 or better record right now. (I have no idea what they were when we played them) I am not taking anything away from them because they are beating teams soundly, and in a many different ways. However, the record against good teams should show that we need to bolster the weakest part of our team, which is our bench.
