The 49ers were a team with a ton of needs, there was very little they could have gone wrong on with that pick. They had to go BPA going into the draft and thats exactly what they did IMO

Well they lost Julian Peterson at LOLB and I think they plan on putting Lawson there, both he and Peterson have a similar figure.

no, its more they lost Andre Carter and Lawson and Carter are similar, can both play DE and LB. That's what they were going for there. Yeah, it was the best pick available. Our secondary is really underrated, and it's because our front 7 dont get to the QB. This was the right choice, it was either going to be Lawson or Jimmy Williams, and IMO, they made the right decision.

[IMG] Manny Lawson was the BPA and adds star potential to the 49ers defense that was on the field alot more than they should have. He is a pass rush specialist that should produce much pressure and many sacks in his career. His intelligence (43 on Wonderlic) and athleticism (4.41 40, 39.5" Vertical) will make him a dangerous LB for offenses to play against.

Ya OLB, and he will be great. He fell, and I wanted the Pats to either pick Lawson or Jackson at 21. I loved the pick for the 49ers, they had a solid draft.

I heard news of him RB or WR...can someone confirm his position for me?</div><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Camp Report: Michael Robinson By: FOS staff Date: May 15, 2006Doubts are nothing new for Michael Robinson. Facing and addressing them throughout his college career, he now seems to be well on his way towards doing it again at the professional level. Granted, it's early, but the reports out of 49er camp so far have him impressing observers. In the early goings of San Francisco's practices Michael Robinson's play has reflected his time at Penn State, performing as a jack-of-all-trades in camp and showing he has the strong potential to be a versatile player at the next level for San Francisco. Running Around Through mini-camp and the early sessions of rookie camp, Robinson has focused a lot of his reps in the backfield, taking snaps at both tailback and fullback, a position the 49ers initially drafted him for. Observers say he runs with "focus" and "determination," showing "a good first step" and good vision in drills. The versatile PSU product stepped right in at running back from the start of drills and "displayed impressive athleticism, power, speed and polish" at the position after playing quarterback exclusively during his senior season last year. Showing Versatility Aside from being a possible threat on the ground, Robinson has shown he has the skills to possibly be a multi-threat player for the 49ers. In the early goings of camp, aside from running the ball, he has played some wide receiver and quarterback. As Coach Mike Nolan said, "He did a very good job. He handled himself very well and it was evident because he was in on a lot of plays. He played a little quarterback, a little running back. We split him out on some things." Defining His Role Although the San Francisco coaches appear to have Robinson pencilled in at running back, they are starting to realize that he has the potential to move around as a utility weapon, pulling in passes and maybe even tossing a ball or two. Aside from this he has participated in some special teams drills as well, putting his feet and moves to work returning punts. Whether he ends up as a running back, wideout, punt returner or even possibly the team's third quarterback remains to be seen, but he has made an early impression for the 49er coaches, and answered some of those initial questions.</div>LinkWhen he was drafted it was to be our 3rd down back. But word is he was one of the most impressive rookies and he will practice as RB, WR, and 3rd string QB.

Good pick. I can vouch for him as an NC State fan. He was awesome here for his 4 years. On the other hand I would have picked DeAngelo Williams with that pick. In 2-3 years you would have a very explosive offense with deangelo, vernon, and smith.

but see, everyone underrates Frank Gore. That guy is explosive, and with Kevan Barlow as a backup, who is still real good, we just need an OL, it's going to be a very good 1-2 combo at RB. Gore was a steal and a great sleeper in last year's draft. I have been very pleased with Nolan's drafts in the first two years of his coaching, except I would have gone with Braylon Edwards over Alex Smith, but, Edwards got hurt this year, so maybe it was the right choice. I sure hope so.

When he gets in the open field he is a monster so he needs to hit holes fast to get into the open field. Our OL however is really good when healthy, last year our starting LT and C were injured for a long time. Jennings and Newberry were supposed to be the guys to anchor the line. But when Clement didnt start and Snyder did in his place, our OL was very good and blocked two of the best games for the offense of the season (Last two weeks).

of course manny lawson was the right pick. the niners needed two LBs from the draft and they could not have gotten two starting LBs later in the draft while still filling their other needs.
