If a free kick is direct the attacking team can tell the ref they want to take a quick freekick, the referee does not have to blow his whistle or bring the wall back ten yards in this instance. If the attacking team ask for 10yards the ref must count them out then blow the whistle to indicate the 10yards have been given.Defending teams should put a player standing over the ball incase of a quick freekick then the ref usually asks them to stand back 10 yards.
Although that may be true, I don't agree with the REF not blowing the whistle, especially when the keeper is lining up the wall. IMO it's just as bad as scoring when the keeper is down injured and the other team continues playing. No sportsmanship and not very ethical, adding to that it's another reason for everyone to hate United. Good stuff. So why can you not take a PEN until the reg has blown the whistle but you can take a freekick? crappy rule, whoever made that up needs a bitch slap.
