Lenny is a coaching legend BUT his last season in TO he didn't seem at all interested in coaching..he seemed like he wanted the wins.

da Knicks need a coach that can get in players faces. Lnny Wilknes aint that coach Dark Day in Knicks hostory IMO Also did you here what Isiah Thomas did to Chaney he escorted Chaney and his wife out of Practice Facility and out of MSG while he was runnin practice. Class ACt Isaih Mo Pete should have punched his lights out when he had the chance

Too bad for Fratello, I think that would've been a good fit. Wilkens is still a good choice though, he should command some respect. He lost his guys in Toronto, maybe he just needed some time off to recoup. Good hire.

Fratello said that he's not leaving his post as TNT analyst. It seems he doesn't want the job.

It's disssapointing the way Isiah went about making this change.I expected better from him.Getting Chaney escorted out of the arena was a very classless thing to do.Even though Chaney had to go I don't agree with the way it occured.

I can't agree with you more about it being a classless move, that was really poor on his part. But at the same time, he knows this Knick team is good enough to win many games this season, so he did what he had to do. I'm sure he had a talk with Chaney about it, business is business. He wasn't winning, so he had to get out of there.

    Here's the ESPN article...

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">NEW YORK -- Don Chaney and his two top assistant coaches were fired by the New York Knicks, and Lenny Wilkens was hired as the team's new head coach Wednesday, according to ousted assistant Brendan Malone.

"They fired Don, myself and Lon Kruger," Malone said as he left Madison Square Garden two hours before the Knicks' game against the Orlando Magic. Malone said Wilkens, the NBA leader in career coaching victories, would be the new coach.

The team called a news conference for team president Isiah Thomas to make an announcement.

The changes came on a bizarre day, even by the Knicks' standards. Chaney put the team through its morning shootaround after reading in a newspaper that he would be replaced by former NBA coach and current TV analyst Mike Fratello.

Fratello later released a statement saying he had no agreement "in place," and then came the news of Wilkens' hiring.

It was the latest in a series of major changes made by Thomas, who took over for fired team president Scott Layden late last month.</div>

Yup, very classless. Don came to the arena today with his wife & kids, to me its total lack of respect shown by Isiah. He should told him yesterday so chaney wouldnt come to the garden today. But Lenny Wilkens is the coach because he is a hall fame Brooklyn point guard. He can relate to Steph on all levels. This team is going to ride Steph for the next 8 years. They need Steph to develope from an all-star point guard to a hall fame point. Lenny is here to develope those skills the Knicks feel Steph aready has.

Yeah Isiah could have used better judgement in letting the man go with a shread of dignity. I guess he figured with the fans making all that noise, Chaney's dignity was long gone.
