<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">John Gilchrist is taking the gamble this spring that he passed on taking last spring. Whether he cashes in won't be known until the June 28 NBA draft.

The worst-kept secret on the Maryland campus was confirmed yesterday: Gilchrist, the junior guard who was Most Valuable Player of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament in 2004, will skip his final year of eligibility and has hired an agent.
According to one source familiar with the situation, Gilchrist filed paperwork to the NBA making him eligible for the draft more than three weeks ago; the deadline for such notices to be postmarked is midnight tonight.

The signs have pointed to Gilchrist leaving since the end of Maryland's season, a semifinal loss in the National Invitation Tournament in late March; Gilchrist was held out of the four NIT games, largely because of wrist and ankle injuries.</div>
