The Official Atlantic Division & Eastern Conference Standings Thread

Since we actually have a legit chance to win the Atlantic, I thought I'd update the daily records of all the Atlantic teams.

updated Aptil 15th

*Toronto has clinched a playoff spot
**Toronto has clinched the Atlantic Division
***Toronto has clinched the 3rd seed

Atlantic Division
1. Toronto: 47-33 --
2. New Jersey: 39-41 8.0 GB
3. Philadelphia: 34-46 13.0 GB
4. New York: 32-48 15.0 GB
5. Boston: 23-57 24.0 GB

Eastern Conference
1. Detroit: 51-29 --
2. Chicago: 49-32 2.5 GB
3. Toronto: 47-33 4.0 GB
4. Miami: 44-36 7.0 GB
5. Cleveland: 48-32 3.0 GB
6. Washington: 40-40 11.0 GB
7. New Jersey: 38-41 12.0 GB

If the playoffs were to start today, Toronto (3) would play Washington (6)

I hope we can break .500 tonight with a win against the Hawks. If the Raptors continue to play as well as they did against the Wiz, I think we have a chance at competing for top spot in the east.

Nets just lost again to the Sixers of all teams. The game went to OT and Vince Carter missed a wide open 3 ball for the win. Who knows are main compettion for teh Atlantic titles might be KNICKS

Losses against the Hawks and Sixers are really making our job easier. Gives us a little breathing room heading into a challengin stretch.

We're a game ahead of Indiana now, so the next two games (Detroit, Chicago) provide the oppurtunity of making a legitimate run at 1st.

We've given the Atlantic Division some measure of respectability by actually earning the 4th overall spot in the Conference. My hope is that, by the end of the season, we can make a push for 3rd.

The NBA has a new structure for the play-off seeding and home court advantage and that means if we end up finishing 4th due to winning the Atlantic conference and the 5th place team say Indiana has a better overall record than us, it would mean they would get home court advantage. Despite us being ranked ahead of them. So I am pleased to here we actually own the 4th overall spot record wise as well.

So as we enter the All-Star break, the Raptors are 29-24, leading the Atlantic by 4.5 games. They also have the 4th best overall record in the East, and that's key, because the team with the better record gets home court advantage, not the higher seed.

Who would've guessed Toronto would be doing this well, especially with Bosh missing 12 games? 53 games down, 29 to go.
