Art Alexakis, lead singer of Everclear, recenty moved back to his hometown in SoCal after living in Portland for almost two decades. I came across a few interviews and articles -- why was he so disliked in the city? "Art Alexakis - Portland's most hated musician." Was it because his band was referred to as "Portland's Everclear" when they were all L.A. guys?
I hear he beat up his ex. Another big time Portland band member who was "cooler" dated her as well. This may have something to do with why he wasn't liked in the local music scene. I once delivered some home furnishings to his house and he tipped me $20. He seemed pretty nice to me.
Art was hated in Portland? By who? And how can a guy from Virginia, and a guy from Spokane be "LA" guys?
That is sad. And I mean that sincerely. How anyone who lives during the 90's doesn't remember who Rodney King is is sad. What, were you on LSD during your high school days?
No. Rodney King was a national story, OCA, Lon Mabon and Tom "Don't call me Rick" Metzger was just a local story.
I always wondered why he had that "Santa Monica" song. Kind of lost his Portland cred with that shit.
Even in Oregon, they weren't as big of a story. You go around today and mention the name and most people in Oregon would be confused/unsure who he was.
