Injured forward Ron Artest wants to return to the court, but not to the Indiana Pacers.
In a 20-minute interview Saturday, Artest for the first time publicly said he wants to be traded. He calmly described the issues he has with his role on the team, his head coach and his past, and said the team would be better off without him.

"still think my past haunts me here," Artest said. "I think somewhere else I'm starting fresh. I'm coming in with baggage but people already know about it and how I'm going to be. Either they're going to be for me or they're not going to trade for me. Here I think my past haunts me.
"I think they will be a better team without me."
Coach Rick Carlisle called his forward "one of the elite talents in the league."
"You never want to lose someone like that," Carlisle said Saturday.
The Pacers lost Artest for 73 games after the Nov. 19 brawl last season. They stuck with him even though he said his suspension essentially ruined their season. Now the Pacers might be forced to trade him in order to salvage an already trying season.
"I think I cause a lot of problems here," said Artest, who has missed the past two games with a wrist injury. "If the trade rumors, if there is any truth -- maybe it won't be a bad thing. They probably could win more games without me"</div>

That was fairly unexpected, though it makes the Artest for Peja rumors seem more legit. I wonder where he'll go...

Well then he is probably gonna get traded to Sac for Peja. To be truefull even with the problems Artest has caused, the Pacers are better off with him then Peja.

What a way to reward the Pacer's loyalty.

Please, please, please make this trade happen. I would love to see Kobe and Artest on the same team [IMG] Actually, this might be crazy enough to work; Phil handled Dennis Rodman better than just about anyone...[IMG]

We'll give them Boozer or get a 3 way trade

    Lakers get:
    Boozer

    Pacer get:
    Odom

    Utah gets:
    Ron Artest

    Would it work?

^^ Pacers already have Pollard. I don't think they would want Boozer either, since JO plays PF.

As crazy as Artest is, at least he gives effort every night on the end, especially on defense. If he wants to showcase his offense more, the Triangle is perfect for him, because he's a strong scorer in the post. Lamar Odom is not a competitor, he's a stat stuffer and is soft on defense. The Lakers really lack any physical intimidator and adding Artest fills the void. The addition of Pollard also helps the frontline, since Kwame Brown cannot stay healthy, and Mihm gets into foul trouble every other game.

Lamar Odom would fit better in Indiana, because he wouldn't have the pressure scoring there. He can do what he likes doing, rebounding and passing, since JO and SJax like shooting.

Artest and Pollard to Jazz, Odom to Pacers, Boozer to LAL works according to trade checker and my math. I dont know if all of the teams would bite but picks and fillers could be thrown in.

Good points man. That's what I mean-it might just be crazy enough to work [IMG] So you would be in favor of acquiring Artest for your team?

I do believe that Indy has disrespected Artest by not vehemently denying the rumors of a trade between them and the Kings...I think it would be unwise of Indiana to trade Artest because I dont see them getting equal value in return..And when he is arguably the best perimeter defender in the league, his true value will come during the playoffs, not during the regular season...

Absolutely. I'd deal Odom straight up for him if the salaries work. It doesn't so the Lakers would need to take a filler like Pollard. Or they could deal Odom/Slava for Artest/Croshere. The Pacers owe us a trade after backing out of the one during draft day. I'm pretty sure they'd take Odom instead of Peja, I just hope Mitch has the courage to make a deal.

Yeah those comments from Artest were strong. I'm not sure if the Knicks have what the Pacers want and I doubt Indiana would trade him to Eastern Conference team. Plus Larry Brown really took the brawl hard, and I don't know if he'd be willing to deal with Artest.

Boozer to LA? Heck no! Artest for Odom would be fine, but no way in hell I would accept Boozer in a 3 way trade. The guy has a big contract, but big injuries.

Larry Bird loves Peja. Arco Arena would go nuts if Peja were replaced by Artest. Geoff Petrie has won almost every trade hes ever made.

I would love to see Artest head out to the West Coast to Cali., either to join the Lakers or Kings. The two forces of Kobe and Ron would be fun to watch and with the whole young Laker team revolving around them. And Sacremento like GD mentioned would be buzzing all over, and Artest would fit in fine into Sac`s flow.
