There are quite a few people who are very knowledgeable about music, and I wanted to ask people's opinions of the band Cake. Personally, I think they are one of the most underrated bands of the last 20 years. Even by myself. If I had to put a list together of the ten best bands since 1990 I would probably have left Cake off. But after spending much of my morning listening to their discography, I would probably have to put them in my top five. Ultimately, the singles from Fashion Nugget, "I Will Survive" "The Distance", will probably be their lasting claim to fame, but all their albums on a whole are terrific. One of the few bands where you can sit and listen to the whole album. I love "The Distance." "I Will Survive" was pretty gimmicky. They've had some decent singles, but outside of "The Distance," none of them really compelled me to listen more to them. I did try an album or two of theirs many years ago, but they weren't very exciting to me.
I love Cake. So awesome....pretty underrated band, really listened to them alot back in my hippie-sublime-esque phase a while back. Honestly, I hated "The Distance", they had so much better cuts out there. I liked their more country-ish songs. Comfort Eagle (album) blows my fucking mind. this too.
