I am a big Brooks fan from his Oregon days. But I would not give up a first for him either. Having said that he is a huge part of the Grizz success, his teammates love his hustle and his passion. Fans love him for the same reason. He plays tough D but fouls a lot. He is one of those players that irritates the shit out of opponents and their fans. Not quite on the Beverly level, but close. He is not a great shooter but will hit some clutch shots. He is that junkyard-type player that all teams need, but he is not starter material IMO. He will eventually accept a role coming off the bench but may need an adjustment period to do so.
That's not a cap problem. He took the minimum. Other teams could have offered him more money. Players can decide where they want to go. Money obviously isn't the motivating factor for him anymore.
But it is a Cap problem. The Luxury tax is only a penalty to small market teams. Is going over the cap, and the only true punishment is paying tax for doing so, not involving the Cap?
Some of these tax numbers this season are insane. (LA would jump to like 55 mil after the Rondo signing-- in effect, that's like a 20 million added cost just to get Rondo). $184 mil just in tax for GS is nuts. Given the profit sharing agreements, I can see why certain teams would jump below that threshold.
So you want to penalize team arbitrarily? Just because they have a certain population or media market? Those stats aren't the end all be all. Not a cap problem because players can choose where they want to go if they take the minimum. The other teams could have offered Rondo more but he chose to go to a team with less money. The Lakers are a contender. He played on the team before.
That's why a hard cap like the NFL has is best. The NBA's cap allow the Mega Markets an unfair advantage. The Luxury Tax is not a deterrent for those markets, at all.
I don't care that all these guys signed for the minimum. The Lakers are so far over the cap, they might as well have given him top dollar.
Good luck getting the players union to agree to non guaranteed contracts and the removal of minimum contracts so vet guys go without jobs for a bunch of garbage 2nd rounders and undrafteds worse than they do now. Never. Gonna. Happen.
That is absolutely true. But it's way easier for teams like Green Bay (ridiculously small market) ,& Denver (midsize market), to dominate in any given year, than the NBA.
It is true. NFL has the opportunity for more parity. But their players get screwed for that. Sad when it is a sport that makes guys brains into mush and is a lot harder on them as they age than basketball is.
NFL has a license to print money, so there is no reason Players shouldn't get Medical Coverage Paid for the rest of their lives. Past or Present.
im down. You know it’s true because he’s a former lottery pick that didn’t pan out aka Olshey special.
Ntilikina is a better playmaker and defender so he’s probably the better fit. But I don’t really care anymore who they sign for that last spot tbh.
