UFC and K-1 veteran Pat Barry has announced that he's asked to be released from his UFC contract and will take time away from the sport. It is possible that this will become a full retirement for the 34-year old from New Orleans, LA. Barry has been one of the most exciting fighters in MMA since his UFC debut in 2008. Barry has only let one of his 15 fights go to a decision. At this point in time Barry has a 5-7 UFC record with four of his wins and four of his losses coming via knockout. Barry's partner Rose Namajunas, 21, is a contestant on the upcoming strawweight women's tournament version of The Ultimate Fighter later this year.
Re: Pat Barry retires Was always a fan of his, but its hard to see him get the piss beat out of him a lot. Probably for the best.
Re: Pat Barry retires Always seemed outsized and outmuscled in the UFC's heavyweight division. Despite this, he seemed to contemplate a move down to LHW. We're richer for it. He's a great striker but fighting all those giants wasn't good for his body.
Re: Pat Barry retires Very exciting fighter, will definitely miss him. I am happy that he made the right decision, though.
