Why is Petr Cech wearing a WW2 Russian tank commander's helmet during games? Such head gear as worn by rugby union forwards only offers protection against cuts and ear avulsions. Surely he shouldn't be playing if his skull is still broken. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is another Mourinho's psychology games to put off opposition forwards?
you people make me sick, the jibes you come out with. If you went through that and was desperate to get back into the game You would do anything. ANd your insulting a keeper who needs protection. YOull do anything these days to get a cheap kick from our players. You think its a trick and some kind of joke? he "faked" the injury. Next time you break your skull i wonder how eager you are to return and get on with your life.
How many times do we see players recovering from broken arms or wrists wearing plaster. We have even seen phantom of the opera masks on more than one occasion. When games like football, Rugby, Cricket etc first started their was little or no protection avialable. When I played football as a kid, shin pads were for optional, now they are compulsary. When I watched Cricket in the 70's few batsman wore helmets. Sport evolves as does it's equipmet, after the injury some of the powers that be suggested that keepers should were helmets now. Cech may choose to wear it for the rest of his career, is there anything seriously wrong woth that?
Living in the US, I get to see whatever is presented to me on TV, and then, only if I'm not doing something else. I didn't see the start of the game, and I haven't bothered to review the full team sheets, as I had a very busy weekend. Some of us "true fans" have real lives to live (you know, with families and all that). I have followed Chelsea since 1969, and went to my first game in 1976 (when I was finally considered old enough to go alone), so I think my oh-so-heinous slip of not reviewing the team sheet should be excused, no?
Here's a thought...If this cap offers such excellent protection, and spreads the area of impact...will we see other Goalkeeper's clamouring to wear it? And if, as has been claimed, it has no effect on headers, will outfield players be allowed to wear them too?
Mourinho 2006 - Wind your neck in. No-one is insulting Cech. All some people have wondered is how much protection does it actually offer? I don't want to see him (or anyone) get injured. Fair play to him for getting on with it, but IF the worst happens and another collision occurs you will be the first on here boo hooing again.
Although the helmet might look like a standard Canterbury rugby league one, it is in fact customised specifically for Cech's injury. There is more protection for the damaged areas, and allows for more peripheral vision. Adidas apparently aren't very happy to see a rival sports company's gear being used, and are developing their own custom one for next season.
