<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">November 9, 2003 - The Houston Rockets have signed forward Alton Ford, general manager Carroll Dawson announced today. The 6-9, 280-pound forward has averaged 2.7 points (on .504 shooting) with 1.8 rebounds in 7.5 minutes over two seasons with the Phoenix Suns.
Selected by Phoenix with the 51st overall pick of the 2001 NBA Draft, Ford averaged career highs of 3.1 points and 2.0 rebounds in 53 games during his rookie season. He set career highs as a rookie with 14 points and three blocks vs. Detroit on Mar. 21, 2002, and 10 rebounds vs. Golden State on Feb. 1, 2002. Last season, Ford averaged 0.6 points and 0.5 rebounds in 11 games with the Suns. This preseason, he appeared in five preseason games with Orlando, averaging 2.6 points and 2.6 rebounds in 8.4 minutes.

A McDonald's All-American at Houston's Milby High School, Ford received Texas High School Player of the Year honors as a senior during the 1999-2000 season and finished as his school?s all-time leader in points, rebounds and blocked shots. In his lone season as the University of Houston, Ford earned Conference USA All-Freshman team honors after averaging 10.8 points and 5.9 rebounds in 26 games during the 2000-2001 season. His scoring and rebounding averages ranked third on the Cougars.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

His addition was mainly to help cover the front court. With Griffin and Taylor both suspended, the Rockets frontcourt isn't as strong as it should be. He will primarily be used incase someone else gets injured.
