http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2013/4/8/4202690/matt-mitrione-suspended-fallon-fox-transphobia UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione, who defeated Phil de Fries in Sweden this weekend, has been suspended by the UFC for violating their code of conduct regarding discrimination or something. Mitrione was on The MMA Hour where he offered his views of transgender MMA fighter Fallon Fox, who after a sex change has been competing and winning against women, causing controversy across the MMA scene. Mitrione referred to Fox as a "disgusting freak", etc.
Personally, I have no issues with what he said. He was referring to Fallon Fox. He was born a male, had a surgery, lied to an athletic commission about HIS surgery and beat a girl up to the point where she had a brain injury iirc. Meathead was referring to Fallon Fox as a sociopath, which I completely agree with. I also find it 100% hypocritical that the UFC suspended him when Dana White is on record for calling people ***gots, mother fuckers, pussies, bitches, etc...double fucking standard. I back Mitrione 100% on his stance and I have absolutely no issues with the way he worded it, either. Harsh? Yes. Very deserving for the piece of trash that Fox is. He should not be fighting women.
A few things to note: 1. Zuffa has been cracking down on guys for running their mouths; the precedent was set with the double firing of Miguel Torres 2. Mitrione (like all UFC fighters) has been told what the rules are for being discriminatory or insensitive in a public forum 3. He could've called her a liar and a scumbag without going on about her gender status That being said this is clearly damage control for the UFC as they try to broker a deal with New York State to get into MSG while under pressure from the Culinary Union for outbursts like these, among other issues. I don't really care if AC's want to license Fox or if the UFC refuses to look her way. I think there are compelling arguments on both sides. At the end of the day I don't think she's going to be a world beater and just because she was a man doesn't mean she wouldn't get worked by most of the top level FMMA fighters.
Respectfully, I can not agree with that. He was born a man and turned into a she. He lived a man 31 years of his life I believe it was before he changed. I have no issues with the LGBT communities, its Fallon Fox I have an issue with and his/her urge to fight females. Men are physically stronger than most women....it isn't right. Any woman who signs to fight her, well I guess that's on her, but didn't his/her first two opponents have no knowledge of the gender change? That is dishonest and shows no integrity at all. That is my issue. And I'll agree with Mitrione that it seems very sociopathic of her... And again, I can't take the UFC credibly when their president has used slanderous words towards woman and gays.
I do not have a problem with LGBT communities but I agree with Mamba. This individual committed fraud to me by not letting her opponents know about her status change. She should be taken to court at the very least, and it was a despicable act because of the physical nature of MMA. I doubt most women would want to put themselves at such a competitive disadvantage by challenging this person, but whatever, I am making a different point. My only problem is with her first two fights, that was really fucked up. Legally she did not uphold the basic terms of her contract. This is not a time to be PC I do not want to put someone's life in danger, fraud is a big deal here.
The question is whether she was obligated to--not morally, but legally. Her first fight happened on a reserve where the rules are whatever the promoter and the venue agrees to. There is no code regarding who can compete against a woman. Presumably they don't have rules against mixed gender fights either but public scrutiny probably prevents those. The second fight is on the Florida Athletic Commission. Fox says she was not obligated to reveal her status, nor does she consider herself anything but a woman. Presumably the Florida AC didn't vet her gender status because this situation hasn't come up before. It isn't the Olympics. Without seeing the contracts she signed for either fight we don't know if she agreed to compete in good faith or just to fight.
Doesn't make her any less sociopathic. How can someone fight in good faith knowing they've been a man for 31 years and now they want to fight women? I just find it completely classless and disgusting. Some people classify Mitrione's words as hate speech, but I don't because I don't think he was referring to the transgender community...he was referring to Fox and his/her question of character and morale. Did the FAC know that she was a man before? I don't think they did...I could be wrong, but I just find the motives completely disgusting. Did Mitrione go about it the wrong way? Yeah he could have been more classy about it, the way Ronda and Tate did, but I don't think his comments were cause for suspension.
Indeed I'd have to see the specific contract but it sounds like an unwritten contract situation, if no mention of this subject is present. I've dealt with this before in a previous discussion. http://oll.libertyfund.org/?option=...tle=2228&chapter=209427&layout=html&Itemid=27 There has to be a meeting of the minds when you enter a contract. No one would sign a contract for a boat ride with the expectation to be thrown off in the middle of it, abused, picked up again, and then taken to your desired location.
I think the way all sports should take care of this is by ruling that if you have ever been a man, you have to compete with men or with other transgender athletes. There is a reason for separate divisions for women and transgender athletes violate that reasoning.
I agree, but I don't think they could field enough transgender people to field a division...I could be wrong though. Fallon Fox should fight men.
