"Brent Burns was playing at a level above most guys on the ice Saturday night at the Staples Center, so it was no surprise that long after a snowstorm had shut down much of the Twin Cities, Burns scored the overtime winning goal as the Wild defeated the Kings 3-2 in warm Los Angeles.

The line for Burns: one goal, two hits, one blocked shot and one takeaway in a team-high 28 minutes, 15 seconds on the ice.

But the numbers — even though the overtime goal gave him a franchise-record five — hardly tell the full story of Burns' contributions.

Wild goaltender Jose Theodore made several game-saving stops and easily outplayed the Kings' Jonathan Quick, but when it was over, he saluted Burns.

"When he's on his game, he's just dominating," Theodore said. "Tonight I thought he dominated."

The power-play goal by Burns in overtime was just the second home power-play goal yielded this season by a very good Kings team, a team that was 11-2 at the Staples Center before bowing to Minnesota. It also allowed Burns to pass former teammate Marian Gaborik for the Wild mark in OT goals.

"I had no idea," said Burns, who was playing in his 40th NHL game Sunday night. "I'll have to text Gabby and give him a little rib about it."

Agent Ron Salcer makes a chunk of his livelihood from the success of Burns, so it's understandable that Salcer is enthusiastic about Burns' NHL future. "
