I agree. But there was a fear we would fight the public subsidy and make it difficult for lawmakers to agree. Historically this area doesn’t like shit like that. Regardless I’m glad it’s moving fast and relatively drama free
Comparatively from where we were in 2019? Absolutely. Downtown recovery for major cities is dead last. But we can get back to the top. It’s gonna take work
This bill is moving so easily. Even the most optimistic person would never imagine it would be this easy. Considering how public funding is extremely frowned upon around here. I think with Portland falling off a cliff so badly the last 6 years, in a weird way worked favorably for this to pass...
Important note from Highkin’s article posted today:
“So far, all of the public messaging from the most important stakeholders, many of whom testified on Wednesday, would suggest everyone is on the same page, or close enough to it that the deal will ultimately get done.”
Im remaining cautiously...
the nba doesn’t move teams anymore. If we pass a $600M funding bill it’s guaranteed blazers are staying. It’s essentially ensured it will pass by all accounts.
The income tax (jock tax) only funds the state level.
How are you going to pay for the $240 million local contribution is the problem. But the mayor already said we can use the clean energy fund for that. Ppl will just be pissed
