It's not really that bad at all to learn, if you hook yourself up with an experienced guy and they can teach you a thing or two.I've been working with Photoshop for a little over a month now, and I have a pretty good feel for it, although there is a lot more to learn, which should come naturally...

I don't care for the second pic of Urlacher inside the 'C'. I'd prefer it just be empty. I'm not sure I like the 'Urlacher' text squished up there like that either. Apart from that, it looks quite nice.

Version Two is better, but the 'feather' effect you did on the player, don't do it. It sort of looks to me like you stretched the pic. Too large for my liking as well. But if you're someone relatively new to graphics, I am too, it's not all that bad. Keep working at it!
