Finish this sentence: "If I were Stotts, for game 5 I would..."

Agreed. The refs really do determine the outcome of the game, but that should not be. The Blazer coaches need to be heard by the refs to keep in check the Griz overt pushing and holding that looks like wrestling more than basketball. Let's hope they do that in Game 5. And don't take Meyers...

Meyers is more foul victimized than foul prone, and this should not be a reason to have him on the bench. The coaches need to support him with talking to the refs about consistent calls at both ends of the court and he will be fine. Also, 2 or 3 fouls do not constitute a reason to take him...

He has made 87.5% of his 3 pt shots in this playoff series

One impressive feature of the high praise comparison that Shaq made of Meyers Leonard and Arvydas Sabonis is the percentage shooting that stands out on the Basketball Reference site. Meyers has made 87.5% of his 3 pt shots in this 2015 playoff series! And he is 73.3% for FG shooting, and shows...

    Coaches, how could you?

Hi Maris. Ha Ha! I am not on any board that I know of, but the cartoon didn't look that much like Dr. Jack to me. The question makes a trial balloon, just for the fun of it, to get a response. Do you think that Dr. Jack would have taken Meyers out to start the second half?

    Coaches, how could you?

MarAzul, when you are playing as a team, the passes come to the man with the hot hand from everyone. Playing for team effectiveness has to be the key, rather than limited thinking. The pretty pass from LA to Meyers and confident score showed an example. Pinwheel, yes, Meyers would be...

    Coaches, how could you?

Pinwheel, I see it differently. When a player is that hot, he deserves to be in the game and shooting, and can definitely be there for over 40 min. You often mention your fear of Myers fouling out, but he is no where near that, and should stay in and score until he actually has 5 fouls. He is...

Who is that on the T-shirt?

Game 2 first quarter and Game 4 make it clear that Myers should be in there and authorized to take at least 12 shots during the game. Dame and CJ should be coached to look for Myers to be open, which he often is, and kick it out to him. LA to Myers also worked beautifully tonight. Let's see...

    Coaches, how could you?

But why would you take a player out of the game that is 5 for 5 and changed the Griz defense to allow scoring in the paint? Couldn't the coaches see that? How can you take away the momentum of the player that has the crowd with him and brought the Blazer half-time lead? Why would you not...

    Coaches, how could you?

In the first half, Myers brought the Blazers back into the game with 5 for 5 shooting, assists, rebounds, and defense. How could you start the 2nd half without him? You squandered the 7 point half-time lead to start the second half, and took many minutes before getting Myers and CJ back into...

Game 3 was a coaching failure

Game 3 was lost because of major deficiencies in coaching. Defending home court failed because of the Blazer's lack of what winning coaches consistently do. On the home court, coaches need to at least insist on foul calls that are consistent at both ends of the court. When phantom fouls...

    First quarter held the key

I agree. The tall lineup is what seemed to allow the Blazers to dominate in Game 2 Quarter 1. The Blazer defense improvement that is needed is to guard using hands up high, and to have LA and ML in simultaneously, rotating RL and CK as necessary, and judged by optimizing defensive energy...

    First quarter held the key

Yes! The open shot misses by CJ, when we could have had ML swishing the nets, were a deflation that lost the momentum. With ML on the bench, the Blazers are losing so much height advantage that it plays into Memphis hands. That is when we saw the 12 point Memphis run. DL needs help to get...

    First quarter held the key

The key is having LA and ML on the court at the same time, and encouraging ML to take 12-15 shots per game. Game 2 first quarter showed that Memphis can't handle the team when both LA and ML are posing major shooting threats, and there was a trend to seeing better looks for Dame and Nick...

    First quarter held the key

The Blazers won the first quarter, and I think the score should have been 24-19 because Myers seemed to beat the buzzer. (The ball was out of his hands before I heard it.) But the second quarter with Myers on the bench lost the lead and the momentum. The formula for the win is what worked at...
