The number of deaths in Mexico's vicious four-year drug gang war has soared passed 30,000, with 12,456 fatalities this year alone.

It's getting really bad south of the border. For comparison about 2,000 civilians and military were killed in Afghanistan this year according to the U.N.

Drug cartels are getting more violent and recruiting children to smuggle drugs and murder people.

One of the most shocking aspects of Mexico's war on drugs is the use of drug cartels heinous use of teens and young children for smuggling, thievery - even murder. Mexico is still reeling from the revelation a slight, 14-year-old named Edgar Jimenez Lugo, commonly known as "Ponchi" who began killing for the cartels at the age of 11.

IMO, it is actually a necessary evil but they need to be more agressive if they want to advance as a nation. If they let the cartels continue to grow, they will continue to corrupt the government and kill people over the long-term. I think they need to be more agressive.

Just another reason to seal the border. The real victims are the Mexican people.

It's not the drug dealers that are dying. It's the people standing up to them.

:check: Also, innocents caught in the crossfire and those Mexican citizens who live in border towns being held hostage by the actions of these cartels.

What is happening is that drugdealers are kidnapping police and now just random citizens and beheading them infront of the police stations or in front of neighborhood entrances as warnings to people not to fuck with them.

So? Who cares about dead drug dealers?

That might be the stupidest fucking comment ever posted on this site. If you think it is only drug dealers being killed, you really need to read more about this.

The death toll averages 34 people a day. They just blew up an oil line yesterday killing 27 people. Here are some of their more despicable attacks this year.

* Jan 31, 2010 - Suspected cartel hitmen killed 13 high school students and two adults at a party in Ciudad Juarez across from El Paso, Texas.

* March 28 - Gunmen in northwestern Durango state killed 10 people, as young as 8 years old, after the pick-up truck they were traveling in sped through a roadblock on a highway in the drug-producing "Golden Triangle" region.

* June 7 - Police pulled 55 bodies out of a mine in the colonial town of Taxco near Mexico City over several days. Some bodies were in advanced states of decomposition.

* July 18 - Gunmen burst into a birthday party in the northern city of Torreon, using automatic weapons to kill 17 party-goers and wound 18 others. Mexican authorities later said those responsible were incarcerated cartel hitmen let out of jail by corrupt officials. The killers allegedly borrowed weapons and vehicles from prison guards and later returned to their cells.

* Oct 22 - Suspected drug hitmen killed 14 people, mainly teenagers, at a birthday party in Ciudad Juarez.

I think sealing the borders will help slow the tide of drugs, guns and money but I wish Calderon would let neighboring countries' military come in to help defeat the drug cartels.

MY people know how to do things......... If your gonna do it, might as well do it right.
