I've never been on a cruise (well, except for the navy), but I suppose they sign some pretty serious releases before steaming.

My guess is they end up with 500k-1 mil each.

It's not like they were merely inconvenienced.

Many were trapped below, thought they were going to die, nearly did die, saw friends and family die...

And nobody denies it was gross negligence and crazy acts by the captain that caused it all. And then he abandoned ship with passengers on board. In some countries he'd be hanged for that alone, as might be his superiors. A captain abandoning his ship is on a par with treason in many ways.
