Closer Fernando Rodney & the Mariners have agreed to a two year 14M contract.

37 year old starter Bronson Arroyo & the D-backs have agreed to a two year 23.5M contract with a club option for a 3rd year.
 
...Arroyo's AL numbers, especially vs the AL East are not impressive at all.

...starting pitching is not as much of a need as other areas...and the Yanx already have Phelps/Pineda/Nuno et al available for the #5 spot.

He is a known commodity who ears innings. Very good number for guy

...yup, he's not good vs the AL East, and he's not good vs teams with a winning record.
 
pitching in that banbox in Cincinnati to a tune of 3.74 and 3.79 the past two years is nothing to sneeze at.
not for nothing but the guy has pitched a total of 3 games vs the AL East in the last 3 years..
he is a known commodity vs the rookies who are unknown.

as a 4th or 5th starter for one or two years...even as a safety net. that is a lot better than the ??? marks we have now.
Especially if Kuroda breaks down like he did the last two months of the last season.

And money is no object, we can overpay for any position we want.

Phelps vs the AL East....pitched as much against the AL East as did Bronson. Lets just say don't pitch him against Baltimore.
Nuno with all of 20 major league innings in his arsenal
And when was the last time Pineda pitched?
Not to mention etc....great stats by that pitcher was the AL East too.

...uhhh, is Phelps getting $12 Mil per year?...is Nuno getting $12 Mil per year?...is Pineda getting $12 Mil per year?

...and spending money has never been the problem...spending it WISELY is the problem.

wait a second..this is the Yankees...you are talking about how much a player is being paid...REALLY....our Centerfielder is one of the riches men in baseball is he the greatest outfielder of all time?

there was bitching and moaning of picking up retreads and having a outfield and corner infield made up of garbage. Arroyo is a proven vet that has thrown over 200 innings, only 29 other pitchers had more innings last season. This guy isn't terrible..he is very serviceable.

...and Elsbury has nothing to do with this...last time I checked, he doesn't pitch...we're talking about adding a 5th starter vs what we already have.

Al with all due respect the guy has only finished in the top 10 of IP twice in his career. 1st in 2006 & 10th in 2009 so that's not exactly a great selling point. Also you need to remember that the guy gives up HRs like candy on holloween. averaging over 31 a year since 2006 & led the league twice over the last 3 years. Including an AMAZING 46 in 2011 which is the 3rd most in major league HISTORY.

while giving up homeruns is not the greatest thing in the world, his ERA was 3.79 means that for all the homers he gave up, he still kept his team in games while playing in Cinncinnati. He was 22nd in the majors in WHIP. for a back of the rotation guy what more could you ask for?

Last two seasons the Yanks had two guys pitch 200 innings...CC and Kuroda, are we confident to get that again from them?

Want to bank on b rated prospects fine. Save a few dollars and hope that Pineda can throw a baseball. Hope that Phelps can pitch 180 plus innings..

And keep in mind that the #s I gave you were against only 8 hitters in the lineup. In the AL he'd have to pitch to 9 hitters. Which I've no doubt would also put his ERA over 4+
 
^^^that's already been pointed out to him, among other things...but he only sees what he wants to see.

...Arroyo is effective vs the bottom feeders and that's about it... and I doubt he signs a deal with an AL team...and for good reason.
