So who do we go after now since the Memphis grizzlies have resigned Darius Miles? It looks like we will be $7.5 under the cap for the 2009 summer. Will it be enough to lure someone to our team?
Portland is still expected to be under the cap this summer. If the Blazers let Raef LaFrentz’s $12.7 million contract expire and Miles’ contract goes back on their books, they would be approximately $7.5 million under the current cap.
Do we go after Shaun Livingston the same team who just waived him but just re-took Miles?

I think we can land a better player, via trade, by trading Raef's contract than we could in the FA market.

I believe it'll be clsoer to $15 million under the cap if Frye and Diogu are cut loose.

If you renounce Frye and Diogu it gives you another 7+ million or so

It puts them where they need to be to do pretty much what they want. It causes PA to go into the luxury tax land though sooner than later.

Blake and Travis can also be moved off the books if need be.

The 15-17 million requires the 8 or so million owed to Blake and Outlaw to be declined (next years options).

I think you are right.

With Miles' salary on the books and retaining everyone else including Blake and Outlaw the Blazers are right at about 50 million. Assuming we stay the same in cap space we are looking at 8-9 million

Travis and Blake get that up to 15 million

So if it comes down to "Cap Space Survivor" who do you keep and who do you let go? Would you keep one or the other, both or neither?

I think it all comes down to who KP's target is, but personally I'd be a lot happier with the production Blake gives us than trying to stick with "Big Shot" Trav and then operate with about 11 million of cap room -- plenty to sign Josh Childress and a decent backup power forward.

A Josh Childress and a Brandon Bass signing would be good - but keep in mind Atlanta can still match Josh Childress's contract offers from other NBA teams.

There's so much bad blood between he and the Hawks, that I'm sure he'd just go back to Greece if the hawks tried to use any leverage ... there could always be a sign and trade agreement worked out however, and considering how little leverage they have over Childress it could be for a fairly minor player (like Sergio or a draft pick) and salaries wouldn't have to match since the Hawks and Blazers are both going to be under the cap.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

He's really an underrated player and I'd be happy to have him here. Him and Batum would be a very nice rotation.

If KP turns the cap space into Josh Childress, I'd be more than satisfied.

A good backup power forward would just be gravy.

We could easily get a better player than Childress by trading Raef's contract.

We can't have a team of five all-stars; we're going to need some solid complimentary players who are able to get by on hustle plays, garbage points and defense, Josh Childress is that player to a "T"

Sure if we could manage to swing a Butler or a Wallace. But if neither of those can be done getting Josh Childress on the free agent market as well as a Brandon Bass would be a good deal for Portland. Childress is a veteran who is a do-it-all dirty work kind of player who can handle the ball and takes good shots. Brandon Bass as a banger backup for LMA would be good times. Childress would also enable us to package Outlaw and Martell together for perhaps another veteran and some future picks.

To a "Psycho T"??

Psycho T

He's not very good at applying his lipstick, is he? He must have really shaky hands.

I like Desmond Mason as a cheap (not young) vet, we have enough young players to develop, let's bring in some hard-working, defense-playing, sacrificial, team-first, vets.

It helps that he knows all our players from offseason workouts, Portland is his home, and he's played for Nate before.

:gtfo::protest::smiley-hang::smack:

He's like a more intense less talented Adam Morrison clone ... no thanks.

They are white. And neither will be much good in the NBA. There, the similarity ends.

Hansboro will be a PF in the league. Morrison is, presumably, a SF. Though he doesn't play anymore so it's hard to tell.

Morrison is an outside shooter. Hansbrough is more of a post player and rebounder.

I doubt Hansbrough will be very good, but he and Morrison are hardly clones.

The player I'd like to see us get is Paul Millsap.

ron artest
I know he deserves it, but with the limited amount of teams with cap space this summer, will Artest get more than the MLE? I don't know if Houston would re-sign him, or how much they would give him if they did. Sign and trades might be tough to come by, with everyone and their D-League team shifting focus to 2010. Does anyone have the list of who else has cap space this summer. Us, Philly, Miami, Detroit. Maybe one or two others?

Is trading Raef and keeping Blake/Outlaw suddenly a much sweeter deal now than letting Blake/Outlaw/Diogu/Frye go and signing an UFA?

Signing an UFA means we don't have to wait for another GM to agree to a deal, however we won't have the same amount of buying power (7-8m vs. 12m). I wonder what KP is thinking...

Clones in the sense of "good college players, crappy pro prospects" I didn't mean to imply clones in terms of their respective style of game ... whatever the case, no thank you.

I certainly hope not.

BAKE IT!

So you'd rather have Shavlik Randolph than a $7.5 million free agent?

Not sure I need to see Shavlik bake.

Branon Bass & Mike Bibby

If we have roughly 14-16 Mil, I say we go after Bibby first.

The Hawks are cheap and won't match anything . I think Bibby is having a great year, his 3 pt % is very good this year. He has playoff experience with the Kings. Of course he would play well next to Roy. I think if you offer him 8, 9 million that should be enough. I like that he has a bit of a Tude and doesn't back down. Big clutch shooter, not afraid to take last show. 4 yr 34/Mil contract.

Blake's shoulder 's injury couldn't have come at a worde time for him personally. I think Bayless will step, gain more confidence in his ability and make Blake, Sergio expendable.

Outside side chance we go after Hinrich. I think KP has a Hard on for KU guys so it wouldn't surprise me if we got KH, although I don't think he compares to Bibby. Bibby has practically carried that ATL team this year.

Brandon Bass- This one I think will be tough because Cuban isn't gonna get out bid for a player by PA. I think Bass would bring in a banger with toughness that this (Nate's) team really lacks. We might have to over pay him but he might be a missing link. I'd love to get Milsap here, but that is a pipe dream.

Giving up Blake, Frye, IKE would be a steal if we could get Bibby, Bass.

A PAC10 Three guard rotation of Roy, Bibby, Bayless would be sick, IMO.

Webster, Batum will be fine at SF. We have to figure out a way to trade TO before FA signings begin. Somebody smarter than me can figure that out.

I'd love to see us trade Frye, TO,Serg 1st and 2nd RD picks for C .Butler, but that is another pipe dream.

G.O - Pryz
LA - Bass
Butler- Webs- Batum
Roy- T-Rex- ?
Bibby- ?

I have a feeling that Frye and Sergio will get traded for one free agent and a top 10 pick.
