Paris Olympics hit by coordinated arson attacks across high speed train network

France’s rail network has been’paralysed’ by a series of co-ordinated arson attacks today, affecting nearly a million people travelling to the Olympic games.

Flames engulfed train tracks at ‘strategic points’ across the country – with hours to go before the Opening Ceremony on the River Seine in Paris.

Gare du Nord, where the Eurostar stops in Paris, is also affected by the attacks on the rail network, said a spokesperson for SNCF, the national state-owned railway company in the country.

Eurostar customers at London St Pancras, which travels directly to Paris, have been been told to cancel their trips where possible while the situation resolves itself.

Thousands of people from the UK are due to travel to Paris by rail today for the start of the Olympics, including the majority of Team GB.

Trains to neighbouring Belgium and to London under the English Channel have also been affected, with warnings for people to delay their travel.

Three fires were reported near the tracks of the French Atlantique, Nord and Est high-speed lines by local media.

Lines in the west, north and east of France were also targeted, resulting in chaos.

Any idea who could be behind these fires?

Opening ceremony starts in a little over an hour. Haven't heard them mention anything about the attacks on the preview show yet. It's basically the red carpet though, not sure I'll keep watching.

I have no idea, but if I had to guess I would guess it's related to Palestine and the Israel/Hamas conflict.

without getting political/picking sides, I have seen a huge amount of unusual events the last couple weeks in the National and global political landscapes. This doesn’t even surprise me if this is hardly news even though on a normal year a story like this is the will smith slap on steroids.

ex: US flag burnings, Biden drop and Kamala takeover, trump shot, more cities in US/northern Canada burned to dust, liberty bell defaced to about the point of being unfixable..

this story just feels appropriate- what else on the menu??

Holy shit this opening

I was listening to NBA radio this morning and they pointed out the obvious about Booker and Tatum. Two stars who are not used to being role players, and consequently struggling. Even though they are two of the best players in the world, they still feel the pressure knowing that if they miss their first few shots, they might get pulled before they have a chance to get into a rhythm....like they normally would playing for their NBA team.

I bring this up because one of my biggest pet peeves is those fans who always criticize players for being inconsistent with their shooting when they come in cold off the bench. And those are players far less talented than Tatum and Booker. It's not easy and it's pretty common. Not just with our players.

I'm recording, is it worth watching?
It's been raining pretty good. I don't think they've been able to do everything they had planned. Also, no fireworks. Perhaps due to the railroad arsons?

They have done more than enough. The rain made some of it look even cooler.
