A little late but here's to a day of baseball.

Beltran homers to make it 1-0. This man is on fire.

How's Tanaka looking? I see 2 K's and 1 BB in 2 IP...

He's pitching well. That being said the Cubs are dreadful so the Yankees should take care of business against them this series.

I think ESPN gamecast is a bit confused... it just showed me that Tanaka was pitching to Seizmore... lol

He's pitching terrific. A 1 hit shutout through 5 with 6 Ks. Yankees up 3-0 top 6

7 innings complete (93 pitches) throwing a two hit shutout (both bunt singles) & he has struck out 8. Yankees still lead 3-0 going to the bottom of the 7th.

I wonder if Tanaka pitches the 8th? I'm going to say, not likely.

Great start. Two bunt singles was all. The first was overturned by replay and the second was a bunt to an empty third during a shift.

Joe let him go out for the 8th. 2 more Ks 10 for the game & still a 2 hit shutout. 3-0 Great game.

Crisp 3-0 win as pitching rules the roost.

Got in late but did catch Kelly striking out the final batter. Tanakas line looked great today, lets hope the Yankees can get game two.

Pineda better pitch his ass off in this second game because this line up looks weak. Especially the bottom 5.

Pineda is out after a solid six innings and 89 pitches. Enter Phelps who has runners on first and second with nobody out.

Phelps get out of the jam and it's 2-0 after six and half.

Any particular reason why they took him out or was it just a case of Joe being Joe?

Two shutouts in the day night double header. Not the best offensive team in the Cubs but they're still major league hitters. The offense is still feast or famine though which I hope changes. Two many hits in the nightcap to only end up with two runs.

You're right, we should have been able to do more damage. But hell 9-6 heading to the road. I like it.

Phelps and Warren were a bit scary but the end result was in the Yanks favor. Nice game by Sizemore I thought, ditto Murphy and Pineda.
