The average 4-point shot goes in 20.8 percent of the time, but if we eliminate those that come with less than a second remaining on the shot clock, the conversion rate jumps to 25 percent. Remove those inside five seconds and it goes to 28 percent. At that rate, the average 4-pointer would yield 1.12 points, which is just slightly ahead of the average payoff of a 3-point shot (1.04 points).
