http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/11/21/D8LH9VQO0.html<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>A passenger initially raised concerns about the group through a note passed to a flight attendant, according to Andrea Rader, a spokeswoman for US Airways. She said police were called after the captain and airport security workers asked the men to leave the plane and the men refused. "They took us off the plane, humiliated us in a very disrespectful way," said Omar Shahin, of Phoenix. The six Muslim scholars were returning from a conference in Minneapolis of the North American Imams Federation, said Shahin, president of the group. Five of them were from the Phoenix-Tempe area, while one was from Bakersfield, Calif., he said. Three of them stood and said their normal evening prayers together on the plane, as 1.7 billion Muslims around the world do every day, Shahin said. He attributed any concerns by passengers or crew to ignorance about Islam. "I never felt bad in my life like that," he said. "I never. Six imams. Six leaders in this country. Six scholars in handcuffs. It's terrible."</div> I'm getting sick and tired of stupid Americans causing these senseless problems on airplanes. These men did nothing wrong and were obviously checked very closely before going on the plane. Ignorance.

It's a shame - Americans need to be educated about Islam - just because they were doing their mandatory prayers they had to go through this humiliation and inconveniences, and all because these two people were not educated about the religion.

Americans don't know anything about the middleeast, anything about the history there, anything about terrorism, so how and the hell do you think we are supposed to know anything about their prayer? After 9/11 I took the time to educate myself on the middleeast..etc..by reading up on it. I wish more Americans would bother to do the same.

Well the sad thing is that the minority of Muslims(terrorist) have set a bad precidence for the rest of them. Americans have a reason to be fearful of Muslims, we're bombblasted everyday with some middle east cleriq saying how evil we are and how we're going to pay. so it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. I can't say I disagree with the people on the plane, because it was muslims who flew the planes into the trade towers, had it been Black guys from Oakland who did the same thing, people who act the same way towards blacks as they do towards Muslims.

I'm getting sick of Americans attacking all Islams. I blame rednecks and stupidity. OH, AND THOSE DAMN TEENS SKATEBOARDING ON OUR SIDEWALKS AND LISTENING TO THAT CRAAAAAZY OUTRAGEOUS MUSIC!!!!!

So if someone is on a plane - that means he isn't going to be dangerous. No matter how many of these muslim clerics said we hate america, people still shouldnt stereotype anyone like this. We already have learned from this, we shouldnt be doing it again.

We are suppost to be safe yes, but are we? I have a friend who works for the TSA and the stuff that gets brought to an airport is just crazy. everyone in this country needs to be on the lookout for terrorist, not to the point of paranoia but just be aware. I agree steriotyping sucks, but there is a pattern here with Muslim men and terrorism that shouldn't be overlooked.

But people need to realize that muslims are really looked into before they got on planes...often double checked..etc..etc..Right or wrong, oh well, thats reality. I'm tired of hearing news about muslims getting kicked off flights because Americans are ignorant.

Man I was FULL body searched this summer. Do I look like a terrorist, no - but my name is Eslam, which is an arabic name and very close to Islam the religion. What I mean by full body searched is I had to spread my legs, put my arms up and I was felt down and everything.

Like I said before the American Media is constantly showing stuff about Iraq and Afghanistan. 9/11 only happened five years ago and is still in the back of everyones mind. there was that foiled plot in August. when there is so many things involving Muslims going on its only natural to reguard them with some suspesion. 99% of muslims are probibly peaceful or indiffernt to the American way of life and wouldn't do anything, but there is that 1% who could do something, and with a billion plus Muslims in the world, that means potentially a million of them could be bad.

I don't care whats on TV...For Americans to freak out at prayer is complete ignorance and stupidty.

Typical. This is what happens when one is un-educated about something. It's their right to perform prayer. They're practicing their religion without prompting the slightest harm to others.

I think the US?s biggest failure in the war on terror, well besides invading Iraq, is not reaching out Muslims, and educating Americans on Islam. Here in Michigan we have thousands of Muslims, many of whom were born here and are American just like us. These people are appalled by the actions of Islamic extremists, yet we seldom hear their voices. As a result all Arabic people are viewed with deep suspicion by many ?normal? Americans. Americans are largely Christian and many Christians view Islam as akin to devil worship. I know many people who think Islam in and of itself as being evil. Maybe if American knew more about Islam and what they believe would help in this conflict. What I really find sad is that in a country that should have no official god or religion, that praying to the god of your choice can make others so frightened or angry. If these were six catholic priests I guarantee that some fellow passengers would have been annoyed, but I doubt the priests would have been removed from the plane. These men were making a prayer, rather than people being frightened by that why didn?t people join them in prayer? Why can?t religious people get on their knees next to some one of a differing faith and pray for their safety as they board a plane? Why not pray for peace, or for our country?

Well I can't blame the flight people for this really. I mean, if 6 people, not necessarily islamic, stood up right before takeoff and started chanting prayers, I'd be pretty freaked out too. Why couldn't these guys pray to themselves? Oh I know, because this whole thing was staged!!!

Muslims don't do silent prayers like Christians (well they do the 4 big ones where they get on the rugs, I'm sure they silently pray inbetween).

have you watched the news recently, religious wackjobs are constatly killing people or doing stupid stuff. Im personaly nervous around any religious person.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Imams stage airport 'pray-in' as protestBy LESLIE MILLER, Associated Press Writer 44 minutes agoWASHINGTON - Imams, ministers and a rabbi staged a "pray-in" demonstration Monday at Reagan Washington National Airport and asked an apology from US Airways for barring six Muslims from a Minneapolis to Phoenix flight last week.<div align="center">

</div>The religious leaders called for an end to racial profiling, saying it was unacceptable in America.Imam Omar Shahin, one of the six imams detained last Monday at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, said they hadn't done anything suspicious. The imams, who were returning from a religious conference, had prayed on their prayer rugs in the airport before the flight. After they boarded the flight, a passenger passed a note to a flight attendant. The men were taken off the airplane, handcuffed and questioned."It was the worst moment in my life," Shahin said.US Airways Group Inc. spokeswoman Andrea Rader said prayer was never the issue. She said the passenger overheard anti-U.S. statements and the men got up and moved around the airplane."We're sorry the imams had a difficult time, but we do think the crews have to make these calls and we think they made the right one," she said.On Monday, Shahin and several other Muslims prayed in Terminal A near the US Airways ticket counter. Jewish and Christian clergy also said prayers. In the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, four airlines accused of breaking federal anti-discrimination laws settled with the government. Transportation Department investigations found the airlines had unlawfully removed passengers because of perceived ethnic or religious backgrounds. The Transportation Department received a complaint about the US Airways incident on Monday from the Muslim Public Affairs Council, said spokesman Brian Turmail."We're going to now look into the matter," Turmail said.TheHomeland Security Department's Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties said last week that it was investigating the incident.</div>Haha this is so cool.

There's nothing wrong with prayer. If it was in public, that's okay, but if it was like in those pictures, I could see how people would be, at the very least, weirded out by it. And there was the whole issue of them having seats in different sections of the plane (I swear I saw that in one of these articles). That could be considered a little odd for any group of people, praying or not.
