Holding Drexler over for another segment, Lillard pushed back to 10:00

I think he doesn't realize how much Blazer fans dismiss him. Much like he dismissed Portland when he went into HOF as a Rocket.

So if Lillard finally wins a championship with the Warriors will you be upset when he goes into the HOF as his hometown team?

How dare you even suggest such a thing.

Yes. Especially if his career was mostly spent in Portland and thats where he made his name.
Exactly. Not sure why this is hard to understand.

As a Blazer:
867 games, 12 seasons
Rocket:
219 games, 4 seasons

Except for an asterisk title when Clyde rode Hakeem's coattails, every single one of his major achievements was as a Blazer.

Not completely true. Clyde played great when he won the title with Dream.

My synopsis:

Tell me about your kid
15-days old, been the best experience of my life--no greater joy
Has it changed you?
I'm more easygoing about stuff. example--last road trip, we needed to win to clinch home-court, we went 0-4; ususally I'd be pissed, but when I got on that plane, I just couldn't wait to get home to my son. Helps me cope, be more positive
Is it true that Stotts has had to institute blackout periods because you won't rest?
I'm always in the gym. As a team, we work. Even when he says workouts are optional, everyone shows up. So he said "what's the point of these optional days if everyone shows up?" So he went to blackout days--still people come in, watch film, put up shots. We are who we are--we put our time in

Not a lot of people think the Blazers have a shot--what's your response?
Response is to put your best foot forward. People been saying the same since the roster turnover, even though we won a series that year. Going in this year, people said we'd be on the outside looking in, we got the 3 seed. Shows we don't care what people say. our strength is in our unity. We feel like we play GS well, we feel like we play Houston well--but right now we're focused on New Orleans.
Did you want to be a Warrior as a kid?
No, but I grew up a Warriors fan. Dad had season tix. security was bad. Bro and I went back and got autographs all the time.
What was your team, who was your guy?
I was a huge Iverson fan. Smallest guy on the court, had the biggest heart, the passion, and he was like a real neighborhood guy. He was what a lot of us wanted to be.
You wear the letter O for Oakland, Ogden, Oregon--Do you feel you're constantly overlooked?
Not overlooked, so much as looked past. They see what I do, but look past it. In high school people came to my games to see who I was playing against, but looked past me. Same as in college. And now, playing in the west, playing late, it's easy to look past what we do.
Are you also looked past as a rapper?
No, I get a fair amount of respect, as an NBA player who raps. People have reached out to me to tell me they respect what I do.
Would you agree with Quincy about Paul Allen as a guitarist?
He plays very well, and I've seen a few of his guitars--they're very nice.
How's your ankle?
I feel pretty good, trying to get myself right for the weekend.

When Drexler left Portland he wasn't going to win a championship with us. I have no problem that he left and am happy he got a ring. Some of the Drexler hate is silly.
Sly, for me seeing a childhood hero turn his back to the franchise that he played with for 12 of the 16 years of his career is pretty crappy in my book. Kersey, Porter, Duck, and Cliffy all played for other teams after the Blazers and all of them are still considered Blazers and are/were great ambassadors for Blazers basketball and the city of Portland. Why is it that the best player of them all considers himself a Rocket?

It sucked when he was traded, but I was happy for him that he got a ring. He could and should have had it both ways though. He'd be revered as the best Blazer ever and a champion with the Rockets. Instead it feels like he only wants to be remembered for the Rocket days.

BTW, I was at the game in 2001 when we retired his jersey. At the time we had the best record in the West at 42-18 and ended up going 8-14 after that ceremony and swept in the 1st round by the Lakers. Since then we haven't been passed the 2nd round either. Maybe he's cursed us! :dunno:

Drexler was revered as a Blazer. I think most Blazers fans rooted for him as a Rocket. But since then he's so clearly turned his back on his Blazers legacy and fans, on top of which he's an unbearably homerific and horrible Houston announcer. At this point I'm just apathetic about him in general.

My feelings perfectly captured here.

I remember that well. IIRC, the team just brought back Detlef, and signed Rod Strickland.

That was the start of the end of being relevant in the NBA.

Yeah, those two signed that day too. It's more fun to blame it on a Drexler curse though. I really hated Schrempf on the Blazers. I don't even really know why he just seemed to always piss me off.

I thought he had a strange attitude since day one in the league. He didn't seemed to rub well with people but he wasn't the only one back then. I really disliked the Sonics!

I grew up in the 90s, and I really hated the Sonics. Adding a guy who played for them for most of that decade bothered me. Then we topped it off right after, when we traded BG, one of my favorite Blazers, for WASHED-UP, FAT SHAWN KEMP.

Bullshit.

I did like Rod Strickland, though, and I was really disappointed that bringing him back didn't work out.
