64 year old woman completes first Cuba to Florida swim.

I don't get the big deal for this. Seems really lame.

Are you serious? 55 hours swimming in the ocean after many attempts and over 60? I feel much less old now. I need to push my mind and body. It's possible!

They have these kind of hokey stories every year. If it isn't swimming in an ocean, its sailing or walking a tightrope. They are all the same shit, different day.

Also you know some Cuban illegal has done this before.

Easy if you wear an inflatable bra.

Walking a tightrope from Cuba to Florida would be a hell of an accomplishment.

Impossible. Read up on what it took for this woman to do it. A Cuban illegal on its own would get eaten by a shark or get bitten by jellyfish. Her training was extensive. I don't see any random person pulling it off without help.

Yet she is a 64 year old woman versus a young, taut cuban man in his physical prime.

It's somwhat impressive, but not so much to be all over the news this morning. Kind of stupid as well like any of these "amazing feats" that come every few months.

Physical prime means nothing. It's about being in your MENTAL prime. She is the champion of mental toughness. If someone else think he can do it, lets see him try. What's truly amazing about her mental strength is that it was on her 5th attempt. She wouldn't give up. She failed when she was 30. She succeeded at 64. That should tell you something. If you saw the special on CNN, you'd be in awe.

And a cuban swims for freedom. That is motivation you can't fake.

It's been done before. It just hasn't been on "CNN". More privledged americans performing uneccesary extreme tasks out of sheer boredom and emptiness in their lives to feed their massive egos.

Whoa, somebody's lashing out in a big way .... jealousy? :devilwink:

I saw her after her last attempt when jellyfish stopped her and was surprised she actually went for it again, but not surprised she made it. Determination wins the war.

Nah I had the day off but my alarm goes on the news radio station and they were talking about this all morning and I was too lazy/hungover to turn it off and it got annoying

Does tuna still mean what it used to mean?

5th time is a charm

In other inspiring news, it only took me 3 tries to complete level 103 in Candy Crush

I woke up 20 minutes earlier than usual today.

Big deal, this is how HCP's family got here!

Granted, they were crossing the Columbia River and it was in a car, but still..big deal.

Amazing story. If people think some untrained random person can do this unassisted they are idiots. The swim portion of the iron man triathlon is 2.4 miles; this lady did 110.

Obviously you are "mediocre" compared to my candy crush greatness!

What I find cool is that her first attempt was in 1978, and she failed three times before this attempt.

Congrats to Ms. Nyad.

I took a series of diving lessons at Pearl Harbor Naval Base from an expert. I learned to twist around while soaring from the high dive. Jlprk watched. In other news, this is my Dad's birthday. Happy #102!
