"Moderate, Independent voices" lean 11% republican and 12% democrat. Not sure that means "independent voices no longer identify".

To me, this statistic means one thing: conservatives are pissed off at the Republican party.

That doesn't mean there are fewer conservatives in the United States, it just means that they know they've been sold out by their representatives. Conservatives will continue to vote their conscience, which means they will end up voting for Republicans because they represent the lesser of two evils.

One could argue they tried to do that by appointing Gov. Palin for the Vice Presidential candidate.

I'm a registered independent and probably lean slightly more to the left than right, but i wouldn't have been against voting for a republican if it had been like Giuliani or something. I don't like the ones that cater to the evangelists...

That's a good way to go. I feel the same way. I vote my conscious be it dems, repubs or independent.

I'd vote Ron Paul, and he is a republican.

I would vote for whoever I think is best. But as someone said, I go for the lesser of two evils, which to me is usually democrat (thought this is the first presidental election i've voted in because I was 2 months away from being able to vote in 04, but i had my mind made up then also).

But someone I really respect on the republican side is Joe Scarborough. Doubt he'd ever run for political office, but I heard some 'pubs callin' for him to.

It didn't matter who they ran for President/Vice President in 2008, that ticket was going to lose. They had years of bad behavior in Congress and years of expanding the government they were elected to shrink. If the government is going to grow anyway, you vote for the professionals at it--the Democrats. The Republicans are merely amateurs.
