First, great win by the blazers tonight.

With that said, we badly need a banger on the inside with muscle. I hate to say it but unless oden can stay healthy...there is nobody on this team that can defend guys like howard without fouling out. Its almost a joke watching howard vs our big men. It wasnt even a challenge. My point is, we need a banger inside instead of guys like frye. All frye does is commit fouls and shoot 20 ft jumpers. Aldridge just doesnt have the muscle like some power forwards do to bang all night. Hes got that slim body type. Oden would be perfect except hes injury prone and could never bang every night without getting hurt. If im KP...i trade for a craig smith type player who can just use his body to fight inside because we were abused over and over again by howard tonight....it wasnt even close.

craig smith is going to stop Howard? I wouldn't mind another banger but if Oden can come back and play with Joel we should be ok and better then most teams. There is very few teams that match up with Howard. At least give Oden this year before we write him off and trade for a banger! Though I wouldn't mind using our 1st round pick next year for a project center.

Did you see some of those fouls against Joel tonight? Howard was getting ridiculous calls. Then he was a douche trying to throw Rudy off of him and acting all pissed when he got called on it

Emeka Okafor fits that bill. Too bad he's a full BYC player.

Who else is out there?

If an in game shape Oden plays tonight and get 3 or 4 of Howard's rebounds and causes him to miss 2 or 3 of his shots we win this game by 15 or 20 points. Oden would not had to score any points either. Oden just needs to get in game shape and he will be a huge asset. I do not think Oden is injury prone even though it seems like it now either.

Having said all of that though you are probably right, another big body would surely be nice. Maybe more than any other need.

We won right? What's the problem? We beat one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference on the road without Greg Oden and with Joel Przybilla only playing nine and a half minutes. Outside of any future meetings in the NBA finals, we see the Magic twice a year. I wouldn't re-tool the team just stop Dwight Howard. It hardly seems like a minor problem, let alone a major one. More like a major overreaction to a non-issue.

You especially don't need to retool to beat them when they can't deal with your advantages elsewhere. The Magic have no one capable of guarding Roy.

We will be fine. Once Oden is fully integrated, Joel is our guy off the bench. Not Frye. And besides, we won, so who cares?

Nice post. What other bangers are there? Shaq is done. Duncan is aging and isn't really going to be slowed by a a tough guy. Amare and Al Jefferson are really the only other two. Neither team looks to have the complimentary players to match up with us in the next few years.

Anyway, we started doing a lot better against Howard when we ditched Przybilla and went with a more concerted team effort to disrupt ball handlers. The rule was that if the ball got to Howard, we'd already lost. Dwight got his, but that disruption also led to the rest of the Magic having a pretty bad night.

Our hope is that Oden comes back 100%. Then we go with the Laker/Heat philosophy of just riding the strongest dude in the league to the title.

Our fall-back plan is the Dallas Mavericks. We've got such an overwhelming array of guys at all the other positions that we overwhelm the few teams in the league with brawny scoring big men. Granted, Dallas didn't win any titles with that strategy, but they were contenders for half a decade or so.

Nobody can stop Dwight Howard!!!! We won, I'm happy!

Craig Smith huh? Ike Diogu is at the end of the bench...

Howards still butt hurt about Rudy dunking on his ass in the Olympics.

lol...yah we won tonight....but what happens when we start losing because of it? what a dumb response..."we won tonight."

anyway i dont care what player it is, im just saying we need a banger.

Let's keep it simple.

Stop shooting so many fucking jump shots!!!!!!!!

As a team we live and die by this, and more times than not we will die. This team will never take the next step by only shooting jumpers.

So long as players can get good "looks", that's what basketball is primarily about.

I understand this. But if you want to talk primary basketball, the ball should go into the post first. Whether that's by driving and kicking, or by entry passes and passing out of double teams.

What a lot of our players do is get a pass from the perimeter and hold it and then shoot it. This is just bad basketball, and the primary reason we lost towards the end of last season.

During our 13 game win streak we made a lot of jumpers, and the team as well as it's coach fell in love with this. As is the case with most jump shooting teams we stopped making them and started losing.

You live and die by the jumper, but teams that get to the foul line more usually end up winning.

The team is very soft. Oden will help. I really think that we need to trade Channing for some muscle. Maybe a guy like Reggie Evans in Philly. Channing is a good player who can hit the jumper, but his game is too similiar to LA's.

You are at certainly right, but that's not the whole truth. IMO, our offense also needs:

open jumpers, not contested jumpers.
easy baskets (lobs, fast breaks, offensive boards, whatever).
extra possessions (hustle board stats).
better defense, interior and perimeter (an in shape Greg Oden back and healthy).

We're doing better at these things than last year, for the most part. So, I'm optimistic.
We're not the same team as we were last year, we're better already.

The key is Oden's health. If healthy, Przy is that banger on the bench. If we went out now and traded for a bruising PF, when Oden was healthy, we would have that PF and Przy next to eachother off the bench, which won't work out too well. I wish more people were physical on our team, but I say we make teams adjust to us, not try to adjust to teams. With Oden back, we will be fine here. Until then, we can continue to trot Channing out there, and make their big men come out to guard him, opening up the lane for Outlaw and Rudy to get rebounds on occasion.

Couldn't agree more with this. Especially the first 5 words

yeah man. Joel simply had his hand up in Howards face, Howard moves his arm up to take a shot and touches Joels completely still arm, then gets a foul. LAME!!!

Ike could bang with Howard. He is a strong little nugget

I Oden is healthy we have no need for a banger. We will be fine. I don't think you can get a top tier banger via trade anyway. Those guys are acquired through the draft.
