Well a double question actualy - do you think KP is reading this message board? and even though he's doing an amazing job, don't you think it would more appropriate if S2 would be GMing the Blazers?

No, I highly doubt he reads message boards. It's possible he checks them very rarely or hears something about what's been said on message boards.

We would have Adam Morrison and Ramon Sessions if S2 were running the Blazers. I think that should answer the second question.

Draft the Stache!

I am sure the blazers have people whose job it is to read media sites and fan boards and provide digests of pertinent topics.

I heard or read somewhere that he does read these message boards. I have no reason to believe otherwise. Why wouldn't he?

People who post on here are generally the leading indicators of how the overall fanbase is heading. If you want an honest pipeline directly into the mindset of the educated fan, there's not a better place to go. Since fans are the customers, I would assume either he or other people fairly high up would on occasion look at the boards.

Because he has a job to do. It's not like he comes on a message board and goes, "Wow, I never would have thought of trading for that player."

I'm sure someone in the organization checks out messages boards to get a general feel for what the crazy blazer fans are thinking, but I doubt it's KP himself.

So he wouldn't check a message board about his team, because he has a job to do?

That makes complete sense... totally.

Good job there guy.

Yeah I thought I read he was a BEdge reader, and actually posted there a couple times. I'm sure he doesn't frequent the boards as much as we do, but I'm sure he's not oblivious to what's out there and what's being talked about with the fans.

I don't think this place is not a very good indication of the average fan. The average fan doesn't even think about basketball until preseason at soonest. It does collect die hard fans though... and while I will agree there are some good opinions shared... it is hard to weed through all the crap... and the crap ratio has definitely gone up.

At last year's meet and greet with KP that ABM organized, he revealed that he does occasionally read Blazer message boards and even posts every blue moon. Despite our digging, he wouldn't say what boards or what his username was.

During last years Meet and Greet KP said he does read these boards from time to time and has even posted a few times. He probably was the one who spread the rumor that he was dating a Blazer dancer.

I bet he posts as ODENISGOD. :biglaugh:

How much value do you think the GM reading a message board adds to the organization? I'm sure some low level staffer reads stuff and filters up anything of importance to the appropriate place, but I know from the horses mouth that KP isn't surfing message boards.

I'm sorry that doesn't make sense to you, guy.

Believe it or not, there are people who actually do work, instead of posting here.

Why they do that is not so clear, but they definitely do exist.

I'll chime in to say KP not only indicated he checked message boards from time to time, he also made it clear that some of the ridiculous trade proposals some people come up with really bugged him.

I think it would be a bit self-aggrandizing to infer that KP might find much value in our message board opinions. More likely, he simply likes to check the pulse of what serious fans (his customers) are thinking.

Hi Kevin!! :abeer:

I think he reads these boards on a regular basis. I think the reason he does read these boards on a regular basis is that I'm the funniest danged poster in here, and he's as obsessed with reading my schtick as I am with following his team.

Wait. Isn't this the "Lies you tell to the opposite sex" thread?

every summer it becomes a stinkier and stickier wade. It's weird that winning and potential seems to be bringing out the crazies/attention depraved with their sky is falling hysteria and lopsided trades. Here's hoping that like past summers these posters scatter like cockroaches when the light of actual play hits their nonsense and they don't try to actually think they've a narrative on whats what.

I agree that with the benefit of hindsight the general consensus of the board doesn't fare very well compared to KP's track record. Of course we don't get the real scoop on the behind the scenes wheelings and dealings which is a semi-valid excuse. But with the benefit of hindsight, I wonder what individual poster other long timers here would most trust with talent evaluation and GMing

I'm not anti-KP . . . but what is his track record. We have the 2006 draft (that I believe he was a big part of even if not the GM). But after that . . . props for Rudy and Batum, but I don't think you can give props for PK, Freeland, Bayless and Claver yet. I'm probably missing a couple other draft picks, but again after Roy and aldridge, it's kind of been a mixed bag . . . it seems KP, on this board, is riding that 2006 draft.

Can't blame KP on the Oden pick . . . but if KP was this guru of gurus, he would have picked Durant. :devilwink:

talent evaluation is different then being able to predict which player might sustain an injury. I'm still in full agreement with the decision of GO over KD

Well this was a huge debate two years ago, but an argument could be made that KP should have been aware of the Oden's knee as there was a medical report pre-draft that had a red circle around his now surgically repaired knee (according to some GMs out there). But whatever, I'll go along with the idea that Oden appeared to be the right pick at the time.

I'm more concerned with this statement that you are still in full agreement with the GO over Durant pick . . really, you would still pick Oden today over Durant?

I'm sure the blazers believe they have the best doctors in the area and when the doctors gave the thumbs up after reviewing his physical. They prob thought everything other opinion and report was moot.

Maybe it should have been. It seems more to me that the knee problem was more freakish.

I would because I think Greg should be every bit the physical specimen what he was on draft day from here on out, but thats not what I was trying to say. I meant it was the right decision when the decision was made... an injury happening doesn't have me blaming Pritchard for not anticipating it. I agreed with his ability to evaluate talent not read tea leaves. Durant looks like a great talent as well, but I think the team would be further from a contender with him on board then Greg.

BS from BS (Bill Simmons)... I really doubt such a report existed. One of Gregs legs is longer then the other, but thats not uncommon and he had no knee trouble prior. If a joint has never incurred a problem there is no reason to red flag it.

I still stand behind drafting Oden over Durant.

Is Durant a Tmac-level talent? Definitely. Different type of player, but just as much an impact. Right now I'd say the comparison should probably be to Dirk Nowitzki, though. Unstoppable scorer, incredible mismatch who...well, you know the rest.

I believe Oden will be much better than Mutombo in his prime, mostly because he'll have an offensive game (beyond Deke's really ugly hook). But even if that's his baseline.....imagine if you had the choice to add someone who will be a four time defensive player of the year center to this team like Deke, or you could add Dirk Nowitzki. Who do you choose?

I take Deke, and it ain't even close.

Agree 100%. We didn't need a volume shooter with Brandon and LaMarcus on board. We needed Greg. And G.O. will be better than Mutombo.
