The way I look at it. Not a lot of people picked us to make the playoffs, let alone win the 1st round.

So, I always pose the question. Would you rather be in this spot (down 3-1 to the spurs) with knowing how you started out this year with pretty low expectations, or would you like to be a team that is finals or bust in this situation?

To me, when I pose that question, it makes it hurt a lot less. Mind you, I still want to win... I'm just saying, it makes it a bit easier to swallow the tough series this has been so far.

You know, now that we've avoided the sweep I don't really care when our season ends. Getting swept after "the shot" would have really sucked.

I usually reflect on my original expectations for the season and playoffs once it's all over.

In this case, I originally expected our team to win 40 something games and miss the playoffs. So, I'm delighted they took my expectations and threw them out the window!

I'm proud of our team. Go Blazers! :ghoti:

So how about this to elaborate on this topic:

Would you prefer to lose 4-1 on Wed, so we are not swept, not tarnishing "the shot" feeling?

Or would it be better to pull out a win on Wed, head back to Portland being down 3-2 and getting our hopes up for a possible miracle comeback.......only to end up losing in 6? Or winning game 6 to force game 7?

Of course I dont want to lose, but just for arguments sake.......if we were destined to lose, which would be less painful?

For me, I really dont know. I want the Blazers to keep playing, I am an optimist and always have hope it can be done, despite the odds. But fighting back from getting dominated 3-0, to force a game 7.......that may be the worse torture.

I'm always up for a game 7 playoff series. Sweeps are and always have been boring in the playoffs. I'm thinking we can break yet another record by getting 3 straight wins here and we've broken a lot of records with this team.

I always look to my other sports teams for inspiration. My soccer team just won the Premier League title. I now believe anything is possible.

Sweeps are boring EXCEPT when the team being swept is the Los Angeles Lakers! Dallas' 4 game sweep of the Lakers was my favorite series in years, maybe of all time.

Yes, it really would have. I wanted just one win to not have "The shot" be remembered as anything but great. Because you know what would have happened... "Well, that was the last win of the playoffs..." To tarnish it would have sucked...

We had a great winning season with an entertaining uptempo offense won the first round in 6 won our game Monday and are in perfect position to make history by winning this series and the title.

That's my perspective.

I said from the beginning of the season that all I wanted was a playoff series victory. I said before, during, and after the Houston series that even if we got swept in the second round, I'd be happy with getting out of the first. Nothing has changed my opinion in that regard. And as I think about it, if we lose in 5, 6, or 7, it'll all be the same to me, because the Spurs are the reigning WC champs, have 3 HOFers, the best coach I've ever seen (and yes, I include Phil Jackson in that consideration), and they just know how to play the game. There's no shame, or pain, in losing to a team like that.

But beating them would be AWESOME.

If we're destined to lose another game this year I'd prefer it was in summer league.

Ah! Interesting question. I agree with you that it would be more painful to lose G7 than it would to lose G5. To be that close to making history, and then come up short, would really take the wind out of your sails. After getting blown out for 3 straight games, then going on a 3-game winning streak, putting yourself in a position to play in the WCF only to come up short in the last game would be quite devastation. Whereas if we lose tomorrow I'll have expected it, and will know that we got beat by a great team. The experience will have been worth it, and I'll feel content - if a little disappointed.
With all that said, I would rather endure the heartache of losing G7 than have the contentedness of losing G5.

I'd rather lose in 7 than in 5. My ticker has recovered from that Houston series. First round every game was within a few buckets final two minutes. This round has been all blowouts.

Very good points. After thinking more on this, it would definatly benefit the team in the long run to force a game 7. We would definatly get more national credit for being a legit contender. Getting swept, and in such crushing fashion would have analysts clammoring that we were a fluke and it finally showed.

Gonna have to force at least a game 6 to get the stink of the first three out of everyone's mouth

We all know how hard it is to not only get to the playoffs in the west, but to win a first round series. To do all that and lay an egg in the second round is disappointing to me. There are no guarantees in this conference. We might not even make the playoffs next year, so we have to make the most of this opportunity.

When this season is over and I reflect upon it then, maybe my mindset will change. It's been fun for sure, but I want more.
