...Yanx are the most valuable US franchise...now worth $2.3 Billion

...no a bad return on investment. The Yanx were purchased from CBS for $10 Mil...(of which George only put up $833,333.33 of his own money)

Talk about getting the most bang for your buck. Its a shame the kids won't run the team like dad did.

The Boss wasn't perfect though... the teams that won in the late 90's/2000 were largely put together while Steinbrenner was suspended from the game for 2.5 years... that being said, he did do some great things for this team and I agree that the kids won't run it like he did...

that is insane!

...yeah, George had many, many contract faux pas of his own but generally laid the blame on someone else...and yes, Hank and Hal have never had to work for anything in their whole lives...never had to build anything from scratch like their Father and Grand Father did. And neither of George's boys has the passion to win and the competitiveness The Boss had.

I have to wonder if the team would be better off his the Steinbrenner boys sold the team to someone who actually wanted to win...

I'd have to give that a big YES!. But unfortunately.............that'll never happen.

you don't think? with the way things with YES are going down it looked like they were posturing for selling more than just YES...

Not bad especially considering CBS drove the franchise into a ditch.

Since cigar smoking hank got suckered into the a-rod contract hes been seen as much as jimmy hoffa. Hal strikes me as a nice kid that doesn't like confrontation and is content to let blind man continue to be the gm wrecking the team. This team is going to take a serious financial hit if hal doesn't fire blind man soon and find a gm that can actually recognize young talent and not only acquire it by writing a big check. Those empty seats and dwindling yes ratings are blinding.

a little hard on cash dont ya think. this market demands the team to spend the money it generates on top notch players ready to play now. that is why they go out and get a A Rod, a Tex, a Granderson, money is no object and nor should it be.

With that said, with all the winning this organization has done, it is now drafting in the lower half (if at all) and we do not see the DJ's anymore.

The problem stems that the fucked up Hughes and Chamberlain, espeically Joba, and neither developed like they thought. The Pindea (sp) trade should help in having another quality arm.

the austin romaine(sp) hasnt panned out yet...there were top cant miss pitchers that either have had arm problems or location problems that were untouchable for the past two years....

This season I think cash has done a decent job in trying to plug holes into an aging roster. A roster that is missing the left side of their infield and 3/4ths overall of their infield. A roster without a bonafide catcher (had to cut costs somewhere) and a centerfielder who has missed the entire season.

For what its worth, this team has over achieved and its because of the manager and the GM.

Al, I don't think I'm being too hard on cash. The minor league system is bare which hes had control for a good number of years (see thread above of top 30 prospects) and its depressing. And despite drafting in the lower half boston does the same and looks like they have many more prospects than the yanks do. First round picks like culver have been disastrous and tend to set organizations back that make them. If Hal is going to hold the pursestrings cash is not going to be able to bail himself out by being able to continue throwing big money out to erase mistakes. Still can't believe talents like cespedes, chapman, darvish and puig were available for very reasonable money (and could offset the yanks low drafting spot for immediate talent) and the yankees didn't go hard after any of them. How the hell does that happen if the gm is paying attention. Instead his legacy fa signing is kei friggin igawa LOL. If the real steinbrenner was still alive we get at least 2 or 3 of the above. Girardi on the other hand I agree with you. He has done a great job with what he has to use.

They wouldnt take those free agent risks because they overpaid for current stars. No one cared jeter and arod salaries because the yanks would open the vault for more. ..that time has past as they over spent on aging players. There revenue is not what they expected with those empty seats. They are thinking financial responible for the first time ever. Until jeter arod and cc comes off the books..the yanks are screwd.

I personally do not care what the Yankees are worth. If they do not field a winning
team with talent, they might as well be worth zilch!

...a ton of money is coming off the books after this year.

...the Yanx' home attendance is down an average of 3408 per game, which is an incredibly small drop in the bucket, as far as their total "revenue"...and fwiw, the Sox and Rangers' attendance is off even more

Hard to believe A-rod won't be either suspended or retired by next year so that 25 mill or so will be gone also at least for next year. Jeter will most likely opt out and resign a 2 yr deal for around 12 mill or so as the yankees desperately need him as much for the fans as they do for what he may or may not still be able to do on the field. Unless kuroda retires the yanks will bring him back for another year at 15 mill as hes been their best pitcher the last couple of years. The others I agree with

That's over 115M but you have to figure that the'll resign Cano. But still, I think we're going to see a lot of new faces next season. Hopefully they're not all over 35.

How many do you figure? I could see 10-12 for next year.

...I don't know if Jeter will be back next year or not...I guess it depends on how well he plays the rest of this year, if he plays at all.
...if he does decide to return, I don't see why he'd opt out...if he does, the Yanx are under no obligation to give him 2 more years..besides, most of his incentives were met and I think his option is now around $16 Mil for next year.

According to this site (if I'm reading it correctly) Jeter has a player option in 2014 for 8M or a 3M buyout.http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/al-east/new-york-yankees/

BTW: this is a great site to paste & save somewhere.

Hey Majorball, thought we lost you. Welcome back. As far as next year you first have to look at our own FAs & how many (if any) of them we'll resign. Granderson, Hafner, Kuroda, Pettitte, Youkilis, Rivera, Hughes, Logan, Robertson, Gardner, Overbay, Nix & Stewart. And I'm sure I'm missing a few.

Of this group, I really believe the'll wave another 1 year contract in front of Kuroda. though i'm sure if they do it won't be for the 15M he's making this year. I also think they should resign Overbay as a backup to Tex. Thought honestly I'd rather see them go after 30 year old FA Kendrys Morales who's a DH / 1st baseman. Kill two birds with one stone. You have to figure that the'll also resign Logan (lefty specialist) Robertson,& Gardner. I would also resign Nix, he's a good reserve that could fill in at 2nd short & third. Catcher is going to be interesting. Remember Cervelli name is part of that list. Yeah, its going to be real interesting.

...Rick, again, that does does include his incentives.

$8M Player Option, $3M Buyout 2014 option may increase to $17M based on points earned for Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, LCS MVP, WS MVP or top 6 in AL MVP

I love the captain but I don't see ANY of those things happening. In his last year, I'll be happy with 10/50/280

...Rick, it doesn't have to be in his "last year"...he's already achieved some of the required incentives.
