<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">GREENBURGH, N.Y. - They might not be reading from the same script just yet, but Knicks coach Larry Brown and point guard Stephon Marbury had a talk Saturday during an optional practice from which the media were barred. They smoothed over the differences that flared up when Marbury took only seven shots and seemed uninvolved in a loss Wednesday at Orlando.

Marbury followed the Orlando game with a 23-point, 12-assist performance in a loss Friday at Milwaukee that was one of his best games of the season.

"I reiterated to him that he can't have seven, eight shots a game," Brown said. "He's got to be looking to make plays . . . The more aggressive he is looking to take shots, the better he'll become. I want him to take as many good shots as he can, and by doing that, he'll create for others."

Marbury faces a stern test against Phoenix and point guard Steve Nash tonight at Madison Square Garden. Reminded that he called himself the "best point guard in the NBA" before facing Nets point guard Jason Kidd on New Year's Day a year ago, Marbury said he had "no comment," and he repeated that phrase when asked if he still believes that.

Although he said Washington's Gilbert Arenas and Golden State's Baron Davis are the toughest point guards to cover individually, Marbury gave the reigning NBA MVP his due.

"Steve Nash is hard to guard because they set a lot of picks for him," Marbury said. "It's extremely difficult because he has a lot of guys that can shoot the ball, and they space the floor really well.

"He has the ball 95 percent of the time, and he's able to control and make plays for others. When you have the ball most of the time, it's easier to get consistent as far as making plays, and he's a very good shooter."</div>
