I do wonder if a lot of priests are gay and go into the priesthood to supress their urges.
 
This wasn't done because of religion, or a perversion of the message of any religion, unlike certain somebodies who behead and blow up shit in the name of religion.
 
Sucks for those victims of rape and abuse. I find your link between "religion" and child abuse tenuous. Religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, and is the cause for everyone's worldview, whether you think you are your own god and moral codifier, or some supernatural imaginary friend. If you wanted to generalize and say something like "Ain't Catholicism grand?" I'd still be differing with you on this, b/c it's pretty irresponsible to attach generalizations based on specific events. Why not just say that Irish people rape people? Or school teachers? Why does "religion" have to be the target? Especially if you're going to lump in every person on earth with a thought about the origins and purposes of the universe with child abusers and molesters.
