I thought Donald said coal mining would save America?

So depressing....

I've never understood why the big companies that make billions off of killing the earth, don't switch to something else (that doesn't kill the earth) and make billions off that.

If you were in the coal game, switch to the solar game.

If you were in the oil game, switch to underwater turbines.

It's really not that hard. Humans have been doing that forever.

The industrial revolution is killing the planet. We fucked up. It's time for a different revolution.

Wow! Truly and incredible post. You do realize, humans are the clients for all that power? More humans want more of them here, notice support for mass immigration. That takes more power.
But the real good part is the underwater turbines. Let me know when you plan to put one of those in your gas tank. It ought to be a good show.

The industrial revolution was a human activity, generating the stuff humans want. Now which activity will actually work;
A revolution to cause humans to want less stuff or different stuff.
or,
Stop the growth of the country in the number of humans so we do not use more stuff.

Probably about 325 million here now. How many is enough, wanting more stuff?

No, I don't think he did. I think I heard him tell the miners, he would put them back to work. I believe they liked it.

Yes but no coal miner has said, "You know that shit I've been breathing in for years, the same shit that killed my father and his father from working down in the mines, I want my wife and kids to drink it."

I don't know, but I will go along with your speculation.

Not sure what you're trying to say.

Are you against using new technologies that will stop killing the planet?

The underwater turbines were just an example of another business in the energy field that is profitable.

Also, oil is used for far more things than cars. Like plastic for example, which could easily be replaced with something thats good for the environment. Like hemp.

If you're trying to make money by collecting a form of energy, then selling it, it doesn't matter what the energy is. It's just business. So why not do the business that won't kill us all?

Ok. Well, why don't they?

Oops! It seems they do.

"The raw material used to make carbon fiber is called the precursor. About 90% of the carbon fibers produced are made from polyacrylonitrile (PAN). The remaining 10% are made from rayon or petroleum pitch."

That's for sure. Huge amounts are use to make fertilizer. No way can we feed this many people without it. No don't even think it! Not nearly enough cow shit to do the trick.

We disagree on things sometimes, but we are in full agreement on this issue @Nate . Just thought I would put out the olive branch and say that I really appreciated this post. Cheers!

You're splitting hairs that don't need to be split. We need to use cleaner energy than we are.

We need to use cleaner energy than we are.
Well I really don't mind if you do. If you have something better and even cheaper, I applaud you. Man you should be wealthy soon. But I get a little worried when the do good crew
want to tell me what I need to do so your planet is clean. I don't like the price of shit to double and then some more, just to please these types. Especially when they don't know what the hell
they are talking about.

I believe you are right. Trump voters DO seem to like being lied to.

Coal jobs aren't coming back.

Ah! More windturbines. Good thinking.

Then we have this giant mind telling the real scoop.

Cats get more birds than wind turbines! Not the same birds though. Turbines kill the kind that would take this tabby.

What will the world look like with enough Turbines to make the green weenie, happy, no need for fossil fuel. When most of the big migratory birds are swatted from the windy corridors that were once known as Flyways, what issues will we create?

Most of the birds aren't dying because of windmills. Some yes, most no.

It is nice to see you care about something environmentally besides the crabgrass in your front lawn.

So right there Sly, nowhere near getting them all yet. Nowhere near, replacing fossil fuel with windturbines either. Are we up to 1% yet?

There is one windmill on the hills above the Straight of Martinez, a lot of turbines there but one seems to be in the right spot or something.
It is right in the flyway for the coastal migratory birds going in and out of the Sacramento Delta. Sometimes it is amazing the number of bird it can swat down.
Wonder what we can do when get a 100 times the number of these replacing the coal?

Ha! About four years ago, I was up in the San Juan's, on a friends boat with a wind-generator on stern. We were reaching across the Boundary Pass, going to the Canadian Islands. I think it was a gull that got into the blades on that generator in probably 20 knots wind.
Shit, what a mess! All over the aft deck. Sometimes gulls will try and hitch a ride. I don't have one of those on my boat.

No, actually it is natural gas that is killing coal. Cheaper and cleaner burning. That, and automation in the coal industry, mean there are not going to be any more coal jobs anytime soon.

Wrong! Marazul is trying to tell you that the canary in the coal mine has actually been taught to dig coal, only they're being killed by turbines when they fly to work.

Well, pretty obviously regulations enacted in December 2016 had no effect.

Coal jobs have been declining much longer than Obama was president.

Recent declines are actually pretty modest compared to the 1920s and 1950s.

Long term trend is pretty clear, though.

But still, you might be right. But will it continue?

I guess if Trump outlaws fracking, then the natural gas boom might not continue. What are the chances of that? Zero?
