How about trading for Golden State's Anthony Randolph? He can play the 4 and 5, and is young and athletic. He absolutely tore it up in summer league and Team USA camp, and his per minute numbers this year are scary. Better yet, he is always in crazy-ass Don Nelson's dog house, so maybe we could actually pry him away. It would balance out the roster this year, AND he would fit right in with our core guys in the future. KP, get it done!! Thoughts?

If you haven't noticed, Golden State pretty much has said he's untouchable if they aren't getting an Amare or crazy talented player. So I don't see it anything short of Roy, so dream on.

Really? I honestly hadn't noticed. I just assumed it may be possible since they barely play him.

I like it. The two prospects I've kept an eye on since last year are A. Randolph and Beasley.

Randolph is 7'0" with a very high ceiling. As he gets bigger I think he'll eventually be strictly a PF.

They value him very highly and I don't think they'd have any interest whatsoever in Rudy when they have Morrow.

The same can be said about Bayless when they already have Ellis and Curry.

It'll be extremely tough, if not impossible, to get him out of GS.

Nellie doesn't want to play him against starting C's because he doesn't want to ruin his confidence....ya, he's old and senile.

Not playing him despite his production should do wonders for his confidence!

To have a chance I think it will have to be a three-way where GS gets back somebody they actually want/need.

he measured 6'9 barefoot at the combine. His measurements revealed a frame just a shade smaller then LA's.

I was a lonely voice here advocating drafting him at #13... I agree with you (and others) that he's now nearly untouchable. Dude was the youngest player in the league last year and has tremendous upside.

Crap...I didn't realize he would be so difficult to get. oh well. Man considering they aren't competing for a title anytime soon, they should really consider giving him some run!

My guess is that Nelson is trying to impress on him the value of focusing on Big man stuff (boards, setting picks, post position) over ball handling and shooting jumpers. I'd expect that it's only a matter of time before he's averaging big minutes this season. I'm keeping an eye out for this expected bump in his role for a fantasy hoops pickup :nerd:

I think Randolf would thrive on an up-tempo team.

I also think Portland would be the worst thing to happen to the kid if he came here. Portland would absolutely waste his abilities.

Sad but true.

Maybe a more realistic option would be Tyrus Thomas. He really came on in the 2nd half last year. I know trading for a injured guy is kinda crazy but he'll be back soon and I think this may be a nice buy-low time to get him.

Check it out: maybe getting Randolph isn't such a long shot after all:

Warriors’ Randolph on block again

For two seasons, the Warriors have had an odd time with Anthony Randolph(notes). Sometimes, they’re in love with his sheer athletic ability in that 7-foot frame and considered him untouchable. As a rookie, they dangled him in deals, too. Well, it’s happening again. Several NBA teams say Golden State officials have offered Randolph in trade discussions, but as one Eastern Conference executive said: “I think all of their roster could be had.”

Says one Western official: “The Warriors are willing to do anything and everything.”

Randolph is 20 years old and blessed with terrific talent, but his staying power and maturity have frustrated Golden State officials. It appears they’re willing to cash his potential for more mature assets. After destroying the summer league in Vegas, Randolph has averaged 11.1 points in 21.8 minutes per night for the Warriors.

Even with his patriarch, Keith Smart, substituting for an ill Don Nelson, Randolph’s productivity hasn’t improved. Still, he’s so young, so gifted, it’s a move that would come with a great deal of long-term risk.

Can't imagine what it would take to get him. I would asume they would need to part with a bad contract, which would likely mean having to take Maggette back.

Blake, Webster, Mills and Pendergraph for Randolph and Maggette works. Saves GS a bunch of money. Gives us an odd looking rotation, however.

Miller/Bayless
Roy/Bayless
Maggette/Cunningham
Aldridge/Randolph
Przybilla/Randolph

Means lots of minutes for Roy and miller. Maggette can play some 2 for stretches, but overall, the rotation would probably not work well.

Maggette on this roster wouldn't work at all IMO. Talk about clogging the lane with 4 players who are at their best driving the lane (Roy, Dre, Jerryd, Corey) The only way having all of those players on the same roster and getting it to work would be to install a princeton-like offense, and I'm not sure LMA is a good enough passer out of the post to make it work (although he does have the shooting range required of a princeton big man).

Likely so, I'm just thinking, going forward, he could take Outlaw's slot. He plays roughly the same amout of minutes, and plays PF in GS as well, so could easily play PF in a small ball lineup here. Can do the same positioning with him, the main difference being when outlaw would take the 20 footer, Maggette would likely penetrate instead. I know it wouldn't be an ideal fit. Just looking at what it might actually take to get him here. And, thinking mroe long term. If we're looking at a struggle this season, adding a player like Randolph would be a great addition. Maggette would be an overpriced backup SF/PF, for sure, but could be worth the price of adding Randolph to the team. And though he has a large salary, I don't think the overall effect on our salary structure would be as negative as it initially appears. Losing Miles off the books after this season drops our salary to roughly 59.5 next season. IF Joel opts out, it's down at 52. Exchanging about 11 of Maggette and Randolph for Webster's close to 5 brings it back up to about 56. Figure in using our MLE on one or two players, and we could look at a salary of roughly 60-62 million next season, which isn't too high, and still well below LT levels. Season after, Miller would likely be gone, making it easy enough to absorb his deal.

Going into next season with
Miller/Bayless
Roy/Rudy
Batum/Maggette/Randolph
Aldridge/Randolph
Oden/MLE signing/Randolph

We'd have a similar issue as we had the beginning of this season, with too many players, but as we've seen, depth is a good thing. That and, we'd have many options for a consolidation trade, with Rudy, Claver, Koppo, Freeland, Pendergraph, Mills, etc. available.

From an article this summer. I can't find the link but here's the quote I got from their message board:

Slender rookie Anthony Randolph, also known as the closest thing to an untouchable on the Warriors' payroll, has gained 20 pounds and grown an inch to nearly 7 feet since the end of this past season.

Mike Rice talked about this on Chalk Talk today. Basically his take is that Randolph is really inconsistent and he thinks Dante can be a solid NBA player so it wouldn't be a great fit.

If we were worried about people being inconsistent, maybe we wouldn't have offered an extension to Webster, adn would have traded Outlaw by now. That and Cunningham being on the roster seem like two terrible excuses to not take a look at the guy. Not saying we have a deal that could get him, just that that logic is bad, IMO.

I would love to get him somehow. He would be awesome on our team.

Randolph > Cunningham.

Rice is such a homer.
