WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President-elect Barack Obama said on Friday he wanted Congress to pass another stimulus package as soon as possible to stabilize the U.S. economy.

"We are going to need to see a stimulus package passed either before or after the inauguration (on January 20). I want to see a stimulus package sooner rather than later," Obama told a news conference in Chicago after meeting his economic advisers.

yay, so we get to buy more people LCD TVs. whoop.

So I take it you returned your check from Bush, and will return your check from Obama, as a matter of principle?

even if I did get one, I'd cash it. I'm still against it in principle though. I don't turn down free money. But I'd rather this be used by the government to invest in the country itself...infrastructure, hospitals, roads, lowering taxes, and getting everything up and running. Giving everyone $600 at a cost of trillions of dollars is stupid. People are going to what....that pays for a few weeks of food...less for some....10-12 tanks of gas......big whoop.

I want a full accountability of the effectiveness of the last one before a new one is active.

No you don't.

Actions speak louder than words.

Send it back and it will be used for those things.

Actions don't speak louder than words. Only a fool would turn back FREE MONEY for NOTHING.

I'm against it, but will exploit if it given the chance.

I figured that since I am going to have to repay is someday somehow, I just put it in the bank. Didn't do a thing with it, or my girlfriend's either.

...you control your girlfriend's funds?!?!?! WTF

Great. The first one didn't work, so let's try the same thing again. What's the big deal? It's not like we'll have to pay it back.

This country has to stop putting greater burdens on its future generations to make life a little easier in the present.

Correction: So people making under a certain dollar amount can buy themselves Plasma TVs and Sony PSPs.

Sounds as if you have a stimulus package all to your own.

If you mean I handle my package on my own you got it all wrong. The package has a picture on it that says REQUIRES TWO PEOPLE.

My girlfriend would tell you but she is too busy putting away the groceries. Then she is going to clean the house.

I will probably watch some football, just saw old Joe P lose, sad.

This is lame. I'm tired of paying for everybody else to get these stupid stimulous checks.

If we are going to do this crap again, we should do something smarter. What about giving the stimulous in the form of a Visa debit card? This way, people HAVE to spend it (which is the point). We could also then gather data (confidentially) to determine where the funds are most efficient.

It seems to me the last stimulus may have had a short turn effect, but certainly not a long term one. As for me, I'm not opposed to another one. In fact, if we could get it close to Christmas it may really spur holiday sales. Or, if people know it's coming, they may spend more at Christmas. That's not a bad thing. And so what if we add a bit more to our national debt. It's in the toilet anyway.

what was the short term effect?

People, like us, spent some money on consumables and paid off some debt. When people buy things, more things have to be made. That helps people keep jobs or creates jobs. That generates more taxes. The government spends those tax revenues. And when I have less debt, I may take on some new if I need something bad enough (like a new roof or a mistress...)
