After reading that Wiki article Sasha posted, I can see the wisdom of it, but man, that creeps the hell out of me, too.
I mean, think about what humans could do if endowed with some animal traits. Humans live in a world dominated by sight, color, and thought. We don't really depend on our senses of smell or hearing at all, compared to most other animals. What if we could improve those attributes, or at least become more keenly aware of them? What other things could we learn about the world around us? Creatures with far less natural skills have survived alongside us for years and years, and we've often wondered what the world is like through their eyes - this could give us a glimpse. One thought that I immediately had, considering my interests, was this: we've always wondered what triggers a bear's winter quasi-hybernation. We know that bears are like humans in many anecdotal and even a few physical ways. Think how many new things we could learn if there was a manbear...pig
Then again, the thought of engineering humans to have animal traits gives me the shivers LOL. I don't know how you'd go about acheiving those goals, and I'm not sure I want to know. As far as I know, it's impossible to cross-breed humans with any other animal. Ok, end of rationally thinking about doing this. I don't wanna mess with humans and animals like that
Bahir - do you have an English version of that newspaper story? I'd like to know if any further studies were done on...whatever that is. My gut is telling me it's some sort of hoax - 1) this is the first I've heard of that thing, and it's on a Youtube vid
2) It doesn't appear to be any animal I've seen before 3) It appears that they killed it, and unless there's a live specimen of something, I've learned to be extremely skeptical of it. That said, I'm a very supersticious person who likes to let the 'ol imagination do its thing, so I'd love to know more about it. Thanks in advance if there's anything else on the subject.
