Anti-Virus - Situation/Problem

Hi guys, my computer obtained a virus recently and since then I have not been able to access it on "normal-mode", thus forcing me to run it on "safe-mode".

I have tried some anti-virus programs but the majority of them won't work on safe-mode, so I'm wondering if any of you guys know of any anti-virus programs that would actually work on safe-mode?

Try running your current scanners (AVG and whatever else you have) in safe mode. Reboot the computer, and press F8 while it's Posting (before the Windows splash screen shows) and then select safe mode from the list. Running your scans in safe mode gives you more results and more access to delete risks.

If your system is so infected that you can't install or run scanners, you can always get a Live disk like UBCD4WIN and scan it with the builtin tools they have. You would have to prepare the UBCD4WIN disk on a friend's computer. It's an awesome tool with all kinds of virus and malware scanners as well as disk checking tools. Google UBCD4WIN and follow instructions to make it, you'll need your Windows CD to do this.

Also make sure you have permissions to your files (right click them and select security and make sure your name has permission).

I never use anti-virus, I just format and re-install windows if my computer is messed up. I swear, when you do that it's like getting a new computer again. Everything runs so smoothly, it's great.

It turns out I have the Backdoor.Graybird. I am having some trouble removing it for good though. It keeps coming back. I did some research on it and found this. If you read it, one of the steps says "Update the virus definitions." I'm not quite clear on what it means by that.

If someone could please help me out here, give me some advice, ect.

Edit- I also don't understand "Reversing the changes made to the registry".

I believe that has to do with the virus database. If you go into your anti-virus program, there should be an option to "Update Database" or something along those lines.
