He is a BYC player so of course it would be difficult, but we have three expiring contracts (Blake, Outlaw, Howard) and lots of young assets. I don't know if expiring plus a draft pick or two, plus Rudy and Bayless and whoever they wanted from Cunningham, Pendergraph or Mills would be enough... Or would they insist on Batum also?

Well, what if, despite them trading for Okafor, their team does poorly and they decide to blow it up.

We take Okafor and his contract also. This would require all our expiring contracts plus Pyrzbilla plus Rudy, Batum, Bayless and all our 2nd round draftees. That trade actually works on tradechecker.

Sounds like a crazy idea but an eight man rotation of Roy, Paul, Webster, Oden, Aldridge, Miller, Okafor (oops, I guess we would only have 7 guys left!, maybe we could keep Cunningham), could be pretty tough. I guess KP would never do that.

I tried to make a trade work with Posey but I didn't want to give up Pryzbilla if we don't get Okafor and I couldn't make the salaries match, but there is probably some way to do it.

Incidentally I also went back and we can keep any two of Pendergraph, Mills, and Cunningham on my original trade idea.

I don't want to nitpick and probably the trade is unrealistic, mostly because of the risk of such a drastic change, but about the salaries I don't agree. If I am a businessman like George Shinn, I look at the total cost over the life of the salaries. Assuming the trade is made in the middle of the season (thereby saving half the salary for that year), here are the approximate costs for each player for the remaining time: Peja 22 million, Posey 16 million, and Okafor 57 million. If he didn't think the team was going anywhere, I think he would rather save the 57 million.

Why would they even trade for Okafor's contract though? Tyson had a smaller one...

I don't think they are in as much trouble as people think.

I agree they (Hornets) are not really in trouble now, but if they were still doing poorly by the middle of January, there might be a chance. And since there wouldn't be a trade until then, I only counted half of Peja's salary for the 2009-2010 season, as I did with the other players; sorry if i didn't make that clear.

Yes, I keep seeing articles about how he's frustrated there. It's the smallest market in the league, even slightly smaller than OKC. It's realistic that he might be traded.

But it's not realistic that it would take anyone less than Roy to get the decade's best PG. Paul is much better than Roy and I'd go for it. But under any coach other than McMillan, Roy's weaknesses will be more apparent. The Hornets know this and would look to other teams for a better player than Roy.
