It's one of my favorite local stations.

Anyway, I was able to purchase one of the last available KINK Live 14 cd's (immediately converted to mp3). Each of these recordings were, at various times this past year, performed live @ The Bing Lounge in Portland.

I must say, it's already one of the best collections of music I own. (Friggin LOVE Pumped Up Kicks!)

Amos Lee- Windows Are Rolled Down
Comfortable has always been a great way to describe Amos' sound, and comfortable was how he made each of us feel that day in the Bing Lounge. His laid back persona was exposed in his music right before our eyes. ~ Steve Pringle.

2. LeRoy Bell- A Change is Coming
When we first met LeRoy Bell, we knew immediately that we might be in for some very stylish and elegant sounds. But, we didn't count on being moved by the universal truths that inhabit his music as well, from social issues to very sweet, personal themes. ~ Inessa

3. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros- Home
WIth all ten of The Magnetic Zeros squeezed up onto the Bing Lounge stage, there was not a lot of room left to groove. Happily, they found a way! It was a sing-along love-fest that left us all feeling a little light-headed and smelling of patchouli oil. ~ Dave Scott
Performed by Edwarde Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros. Written by Alex Ebert and Jade Castrinos. Published by Chysalis Music/Caravan Touchdown (ASCAP) and Jadey Rae Admin. By Crysalis Songs. (BMI)

4. Sahara Smith- The Real Thing
She first came to public attention at age 15 performing on the Prairie Home Companion and dazzled us in the Bing Lounge with this sultry performance of her song The Real Thing. ~ Brad Dolbeer.

5. Matt Nathanson- Faster
With the energy of a 'tween hopped up on Pixie Stix, Matt exploded into our Bing Lounge with his music and always over-the-top humor about life, love and the bathroom escapades of one George Michael. ~ Steve Pringle
Matt Nathanson appears courtesy of Sub Pop Records. Vanguard Records, a Welk Music Group. Rogue LeaderMusic/RMI April Music, Inc. (ASCAP)

6. The Head and the Heart- Lost in My Mind
The band was on a high from opening for Dave Matthews and Vampire Weekend before arriving in our Bing Lounge. On top of that, they had just signed with Sub Pop Records and came to show us the latest from Seattle's thriving music scene. ~ Steve Pringle
"Lost In My Mind" performed by The Head and the Heart. Written by The Head and the Heart. Published by Snacks and Buddies (BMI) and Snacks (ASCAP) Administered by Inside Passage Music.

7. Scars on 45- Give Me Something
This was the band's first time across the pond with musical instruments in hand. They had a nervousness which was quite refreshing and when they started to play, we knew right then that their future would be bright. ~ Steve Pringle.

8. Sarah McLachlan- Angel
We'll never forget how Sarah boycotted the "green room" in favor of mixing with her longtime, diehard fans in the Bing Lounge. Her music came as effortlessly as her enduring love of the people who have made her a star. ~ Sheila Hamilton

9. Bruce Cockburn- Lovers in a Dangerous Time
We have so much respect for Bruce Cockburn. For all the times he has performed for us at KINK, he has never mailed it in. That is saying a lot for a man whose been honored by the Canadian postal service with his own postage stamp! ~Dave Scott
Lovers in a Dangerous Time written by Bruce Cockburn (c) 1984 Golden Mountain Music Corp

10. Avett Brothers- I and Love and You
These southern gentlemen from North Carolina might win the award for the nicest band we've had in the lounge. You could hear a pin drop when they did this version of I and Love and You. ~ Brad Dolbeer
The Avett Brothers appear courtesy of American/Columbia Records. "I and Love and You" is licensed courtesy of AR, LLC

11. Shawn Mullins- Light You Up
Shawn has been one of our good friends for years and it's always a special day when he comes to play. This was his first visit in the new Bing Lounge and he was so impressed he's considering moving to Portland so he can play here more frequently! ~ Brad Dolbeer

12. Black Dub - Surely
This group includes the famous producer and singer-songwriter Daniel Lanois and Chris Whitley's daughter, Trixie Whitley to form an incredibly melodic sound. Sweet and sad, this is a song that bridges time. ~ Inessa
Black Dub appears courtesy of Jive Records, a unit of Sony Music Entertainment. (F)&(C) 2011

13. Portugal. The Man.- People Say
These young guys from Portland, Salem, and Wasilla Alaska (they didn't even mention that town's most famous resident...) are rising stars and we felt very fortunate to have them come play for us in between albums. ~ Brad Dolbeer
"People Say" by Portugal. The Man courtesy of Atlantic Recording Corporation

14. Iron and Wine- Tree By The River
Iron and Wine had just released Kiss Each Other before making his way into the Bing Lounge and allowing us first hand to realize why he is one of the indie music scene's best kept secrets. When asked why he wore his suit and tie, he replied, "Gotta show respect to get it." A true class act. ~ Steve Pringle

15. Foster the People- Pumped Up Kicks
Pumped Up Kicks is the song of the summer of 2011...a surprising statement when you look past the poppy production elements. Here is a darkly forboding song from a band that delivers much more than just drop-dead good looks. ~ Dave Scott
Foster the People appears courtesy of COlumbia Records. "Pumped Up Kicks" is licensed courtesy of Sony Music Entertainment

16. Vicci Martinez Band - Touch the Fire
Tagged to represent the great Northwest on reality TV, she took time out of her busy schedule to sing for us in the Bing Lounge. Despite what the American voting public thinks, Vicci will always be "The Voice" to us. ~ Dave Scott
Vicci Martinez appears courtesy of Universal Republic

17. Fitz and the Tantrums- Money Grabber
One of the livliest sessions we've had in the Bing Lounge, Fitz and his Tantrums got us rockin' with this one. We barely knew this band, but that all changed the moment they played the first note! ~ Brad Dolbeer
Fitz and The Tantrums appears courtesy of Dangerbird Records

18. Modern English - I Melt with You
Not so modern and it's the Queen's English, but what a day it was to see Robbie, Gary, Mick and the rest of the original band back again visitng KINK to sing their all time classic, I Melt With You. ~ Steve Pringle
Universal - Songs of Polygram Int, Inc. (BMI)

You ever see this?

Oh ya, KINK is in my dial rotation. Shiela Hamilton has a sexy voice, I almost cream myself everytime I hear it.

Everything always sounds so good at the Bing Lounge.

Foster The People were recently on SNL. I really wanted to see that, but forgot!! UGH!!

Here's my take in KINK:

"We're going to play a non title track of a CD by Tommy Rothblatenbarger and the Trash Cans. Their latest CD sold 1700 copies in the Des Moines, Iowa greater metropolitan area in 2003."

"KINK, true to the music."

Most of their songs are obscure.

You, Sir, are obscure.

BTW, KINK hasn't been around for over 40 years for nuthin'. I doubt you could say that about any other music station in Portland.

Really, really like this song. Plus, she's a local. :)

[video=youtube;a6JUXqSRy9g]

^ she's talented.

She'll be performing, along with some other artists, with the Seattle Symphony in early December. Would like to go, but Christmas presents beckon. :(

FWIW, KINK has been playing songs (from a vast majority of their library) from Z-A. They're currently on the O's. 101.9 FM

did they change formats? it seemed when i was back for the holidays they were playing much more blues and newer rock than they used to.

Well, they've pretty much always played album music: classic rock; singer-songwriter, some indie; blues, etc.

huh, i always thought of it as more easy listening than album music. i just glossed over it and wouldn't listen for long periods when i lived there but listened quite a bit while back in town a few weeks ago.

Pumped Up Kicks is only the biggest crossover hit since forever. Cool song. My buddies 9 year old daughter told me so. My grandma agreed.
