Haven't been scammed. Had my information stolen and used. Went through the hoops to fix it. Sorry man. Hope you get it figured out.

What was the scam?

14 thousand in dog dollars.

Didn't we used to have a trail blazer that called himself Dog Dolla? I think his real name was Willard, like the rat in the movie.

My son went skiing in Canada during winter break when he was in high school and had his identity stolen from his debit card at a market checkout debit machine. He stopped the card but they got a few hundred bucks from his account that he couldn't get back. Fortunately, as a high school senior he didn't have much in the account to begin with. Sorry that happened to you. After that happened to my son I went to my bank and had them lock my card for local use and if I want to travel I have them unlock it for the places I'll travel to only. It's some insurance.

What was the scam?

Do I have to say? In hindsite i'm an idiot....

So I bought a computer off my 19 yr old nephew who I let stay with me this summer while he figured some things out. Its a well built machine I'm using for the studio. Anyhow, I finally got around to hooking it up and transferring all my data form the old to the new.

When done, I couldn't get the PC to sync with my phone for all of my saved passwords. So I started doing searches around dropbox, the third party app that held my keypass password lists, so it could be accessed remotely. At one point clicking on links trying to figure it out( I fricken hate all of this tech shit) I get a pop up that the computer is froze and I need to call microsoft support, as i've been infected with a virus, etc.

1st mistake: called the number on the screen instead of looking up a microsoft support outside of the pc to confirm.

So I call the number on the screen and allow them to access the computer to run scans, etc. He has me go into DOS(run/cmd) and pull up some info that shows IP's being listened to(or so he says), established, etc. He says all of our devices have been compromised via our wifi. He then says all of my secure info has been compromised and asks if I have been to the wells fargo bank in Canby in the last 24hrs. I have not. He said there is a pending withdrawal for $3000 and that I need to go to the bank and withdraw the cash before the scammers get it. I do.

This is where i'm really just a complete idiot. he then says he is working on the cleaning up the pc and removing the virus/scammers. But I cant get the money back into the bank as cash and need to go get gift cards to then transfer the funds back. I did. I transferred the codes to him. (this is where you can just lay into me. I deserve it).

I have alot of things going on in my life at the moment. Life changing things, and I just was not on top of my game and it all happened so fast. It took me about 20 minutes and then I realized holy shit. What did I just do. We had established a phone convo and text convo through this and I had sent him pics of the scratched cards. 20 minutes later I deleted them as I came to my senses. Luckily the store capped me at 2K in gift cards(4 @ $500).

I have called Nike(the cards) and submitted a claim to see about at least putting a hold on these numbers to possibly at least get the money back in credit, on a new card with new number, but I'm sure that's about the best I will get. They said it could take 5-7 days to complete, at which time the money could be spent. I checked the balance a couple times on the cards and they are still full as of a n hour or so ago. But if I cant get the cash back, Xmas is gonna be pretty weak this year...

I have since had to cancel all my cards and request new ones with new numbers, go into wells fargo and file a fraud claim and cancel my checking and savings and open up new accounts. Spent three hours with my nephew going over the PC to ensure it isn't still accessible or in someone's control. (He built it.)

I have yet to deal with my phone, which I think i'm just gonna replace since its almost 5 years old.

IM an idiot. I just wanna cry or break something. lol. Fuck!

I'm so sorry. Thanks for sharing that, I know it's embarrassing but hopefully, you'll prevent someone on here from falling for the same scam.

Thanks.
Exactly why I did. These liars and cheats are getting better and better all the time. If my story can prevent even one person from being a victim themselves, all worth it to expose the mud in my face.

I was just talking with someone about this and you need to get a new phone number, not just a new phone. These fucks have a ton of info on you now and if they were to clone your phone they could access most of your accounts again since your phone is often used as a security verification.

yeah, thats the goal today and tomorrow. Need to get it all fixed quick because the only way to enter games is with the damn blazers app.
I really cant stand how we are forced more and more to use these hackable devices to carry all of our important info.
i want my physical pass back!!!!

So Nike didn't process the claim in time. the cards now have a zero balance....Not happy at all with them not being able to put a hold on the cards when I was on the phone with them while they still had a full balance.

You should file a report with the FTC:

Had two seperate accounts hit because of the 2019 Capital One breach. Got everything back because of the guarantees they had at the time. Which brings me to my point.

Read the small print on all of your credit cards and bank accounts. The lawyers have been busy rewriting the small print. Both to limit their clients exposure, which increases yours. And what they now guarantee.

It probably varies with each company, but for the most part, we are not as well protected from fraud as we were in 2019.

I have the same card, but didnt get hit. luckily. I will do that. Thanks for the info!

On the side, Ive been meaning to ask, are you back in the area these days?

I knew that, but I remember you saying not good service where you went. Must be a bit better now. :)

But it just dawned on me you don't know who I am likely. Ill just say this. The venison was fantastic! ;)

The phone company finally talked the tribe into a price they could afford to rent the land. So we now have a cell tower nearby. Very slow service, but it is better than what we had.

Venison is a good clue, but not good enough. Does your first name start with K, and your last name is in your username?

negative. I just messaged you. :)

A bit of a follow up on this.

I will not post this anywhere but here yet, but i'm done with Nike. The lack of customer service and neglect over this situation has cost me over $700.00 in lost funds.

So as this happened and I realized I was scammed, I called Nike and requested to put a hold on the cards to avoid any spending, until this was resolved. I was told, I can only put in a request and it can take several days. I told them that's unacceptable, as i'm sure the funds will be used sooner than that. I weas told that is the best they can do.

After two days and no response, I called Nike back again and let them know the funds are now almost gone( I had been watching the balances) and we need ot put an immediate hold on the cards to avoid the last of them being used up. I was then told they could do that immediately, that they had a records of my first call and arent sure why that first person didn't put them on hold when I first asked.

They then put the cards on hold and out in a request to recover the spent funds. Of the $2000.00 in gift cards, I was later told they were able to retrieved just over $700.00 of the cards with a balance and that one cards was completely depleted and Id have to go through Walgreens to recover and I would be able to get $5090.00 in cash refund. So $700.00 in Nike Credit and $500 cash back for the $2K I had purchased. I was told that I need to put in a request with Walgreens who will then submit to Incomm, a third party company I have no contact with. For almost a month, Nike has told me the funds are there for Walgreens to resolve, just put on hold. Walgreens keeps telling me that there are no funds to reimburse. It takes days to get a response and I've gone through the same scenario/explanation with both companies several times since the original inquiry.

I have now requested Nike to have a manger call me( cant get one on the phone per Nike, can only request a call back) 2 days ago and no call back yet.

If Nike would have done what they should have from the outside, they would have saved all of my $2k and it would have all been spent with Nike. Instead, they cost me a minimum of $700 + dollars and possibly more.

I find this to be incredibly poor service that they wont just provide me a full credit considering they could have put the cards on hold when originally requested, but fine. I was going to live with that. But now I cannot get them to inform Walgreens or get them together to resolved the $500.00 balance still left that Nike claims is mine.

I feel im going to have no choice but to boycott Nike now and put them on social media blast for this, considering I cant even get a call back now.

I have almost all correspondence in email so the facts and timeline are clear.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm a nobody. Blasting on social Media will get a few views and that's it. Should I contact the local news? I want my fricken money back! I'm not rich and $500.00 is $500.00 ( not even including the $700 in credit I lost they wont reimburse).

Any advice would be much appreciated
