It was only on the air for one season January-July of 1960. Due to the death of host Mark Scott who died of a heart attack at the young age of 45.

Here's a link to who participated, & who won the rounds. I was just a little guy at the time but I actually do remember the show & was able to enjoy it several years later when it went into repeats.

Click on where it says, "Did you mean home run derby (TV series)".

I remember watching the rebroadcasts of it. It was a pretty cool show.

...I remember watching it with my friends back then...but I didn't realize it was only shot for one year...they must have spread the broadcasts out because I know it was on TV for longer than that.

...who was it that beat The Mick?...Killebrew?...Mays?

...just checked, it WAS Killebrew.

...some of those guys did pretty well. Hell, Aaron won over $13K...that was a lot of money back then. The only person to beat Hank was....Wally f'n Post?....lol

...also, something I read in rick's link was the fact the most of the batters in HR Derby wore golf gloves which was way before the use of batting gloves.

It's a pretty interesting read & Wally Post did actually have some pop. I know when Rob sees it he's going flip out. He loves this kind of shit. But then again most OLD guys like him just enjoy getting up in the morning. Let me re-phase that, WAKING up in the morning.

Say hey, I still am trying to wake up, just got out of bed, about 3 pm. Still a frappacino from Star-F'ks, and no wait, make that 2 Fraps, two Coca Colas, a couple cups more of Java, two quarts of Sun Tea, and its 6 pm, and say hey, I just rolled out of bed......

say hey, got to read the link you posted Old Man, I mean Rick.....

Thanks will be back soon, got to wash the sleep out of my eyes, as the sun goes down here on the West Coast....

It did seem like it was on longer but 26 half hours episodes from January through July of 1960. So they had to rerun it because I remember watching it while I was growing up in the Orphanage from 1961-1968. It was very enjoyable.

Now this is one INCREDIBLE LINK. Thanks a Million Rick...!!

This just made my week. I'll have this one in my head until I find those old Black and White Films we saw early in the 60s. I remember as well, how some channels, showed these in Re-Runs, over the decade that was the 60s.

Flip if I could, haven't been able to do a flip in way to many decades since...although If I could I would. So I'll remember when I could, like this old Great Show HR Derby.

I can't believe they discontinued it just due to the unexpected death of its host Mark Scott. I've no doubt that it was popular enough to continue it with a new host.

You can check out some of the matchups on Youtube. I watched some of Mantle's yesterday.
