Defending champion Petra Kvitova and second seed Agnieszka Radwanska have been forced to withdraw from the Apia International Sydney.
Kvitova, the world No.6 and third seed, is suffering the lingering effects of a gastrointestinal illness while Radwanska withdrew citing a left leg injury after winning the WTA title in Shenzhen on Saturday.

Canada’s Daniel Nestor has become the first player in ATP Tour history to record 1,000 doubles victories over his career.
Nestor reached the milestone Monday when he teamed with Marcelo Melo of Brazil for a 6-4, 6-4 win over France’s Jeremy Chardy and India’s Leander Paes in men’s doubles play at the Apia International Sydney.

Top-seeded Simona Halep has booked a semifinal berth at the Sydney International, while fourth-seeded Grigor Dimitrov advanced to the men's quarterfinals of the Australian Open tuneup event.
Halep beat last year's Sydney runner-up Karolina Pliskova 6-4, 7-5 and will next play two-time Grand Slam champion Svetlana Kuznetsova, who defeated Sara Errani of Italy 7-6 (1), 6-0 on Wednesday.
Dimitrov advanced with a 7-6 (2), 6-4 win over Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas.
