Montreal's Arcade Fire took home the 2010 Grammy Award for Album of the Year last night, defeating front-runners Lady Gaga and Lady Antebellum and scoring a victory for independent music in the process.
The Suburbs is Arcade Fire's third and most critically-acclaimed album to date. It reached #1 on the album charts in several countries including the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, Portugal, Belgium, and Norway. The album, produced by Markus Dravs, was the only nominated album not on a major record label.
Overall the Grammys are pretty awful with year after year of dredge being celebrated as art but it is good to occasionally see some deserving winners.
