I just saw a thing on the Yankees hot stove where they said that the Cubs have offered Lester 6 years @ $138M. I mean HOLY SHIT! that comes out to $23M per.

...if money is his main motivation, he needs to take that deal before the Cubs change their mind.

If I'm Lester I wouldn't even take a breath, just hand me pen & tell me where to sign.

...wouldn't be surprised to see him go to the NL...Cubs/Giants/Dodgers

Considering what some of these position players are getting, I actually think the offer/price is about right on the open market.

Lester hasn't turned 31 yrs old yet, is at the top of his game and is absolutely one of the premier LHP in MLB.

6 year contract- 4 yrs into the contract he will be "only" 35 yrs old, still reasonably young. It's quite possible that Lester can still be a very good pitcher at ages 36-37 but even if he falters in the last couple of yrs of the contract, teams realize they are really paying for the first 4-5 years of prime production...it's part of the deal.

If you don't want to commit for longer than 3-5 years, you don't have to and he signs somewhere else.
I can't blame some teams for refusing to go 6 or more years on a contract.

Of course the big concern is always about possible injury to a pitcher's arm/elbow/shoulder.

Barring a serious injury, I see no reason why Lester shouldn't still be an effective SP through the ages of 35-37.

^^^ I wonder why it is that lefties seem to age better than RHed pitchers?

And there also are less LHSP which puts a premium on them.
Andy Pettitte for example, I believe he could've still been a quality back end of the rotation SP for another two more years if he wanted to gut it out.

Would be great to see him out of the AL East. Would love to have him on the Yankees though. Hoping the Yankees go after Scherzer.

I doubt very much Lester would sign with the Yankees unless they offer much more.
It's a Redsox/Yankee thing - imo - he will choose another/any other team unless the Yankees overwhelm him with an offer...
...and that isn't going to happen.

Is there a link anywhere? I haven't seen anything anywhere yet...

Nothing yet Steve, like I said I saw it on Yankee hot stove but I don't remember if it was a sight someone posted on face book or something I saw on the ESPN news site.

Honestly damn good money for Lester. Yet, nothing close yet to Kershaw's contract, now that is a Holy Shit Contract....
and damn he'd be a fool to not take that money....$$$
But then Lester is no Kershaw, is quit a bit older, and is approaching his twigh-light days,
